Lots of salad, headed north to find less salad and switched to morf. Found a good hole and caught dozens of perch. Kept the best ten.Meet a couple of cool urf fishing cats. Then I headed to OB, caught one small croaker and small halibut. Had a fat bean chase the morf, but no connection:Bawling: Found this intresting thing in my perch :EyePop:

nice footballs! thanks for sharing.

those parasitic worms are really common on surf fish. I see them all the time on perch when i fillet them for shark bait...croakers, halibut, corbina, bass...you name it. I think they're even more common on rockfish and barracudas!

On some of the heavily infested fish, you can find these worms chillin' on the gills of the fish where there is an abundant source of blood and stuff to feed on...just slightly lift up the gill plates and you'll see them if they're there. It makes a great way to quickly assess the health of the fish that you're planning to keep and bring home for dinner. Other than that, i've seen them embedded in muscle tissues, in stomach cavities, in egg sacks, etc...

Heck, it's extra protein!

That is why I never eat any local fish raw (or ceviche) or any fish guts. Good job on the variety!
