Took 2nd trip of the year as a warm up for the fall, fished the following lakes and streams. (Pics up in a few hours)
Started out the trip at Intake 2 Bishop Creek Canyon
Fishing here was tough at first, but picked up as the morning got older. Thomas Bouyants in the neon green pattern Fished the bouyant slow near the drain pipe/Dam area for stocker sized fish. I think I actually caught the most that morning, wasn't the usual Intake 2. they were using the lake for water the day before because of a fire, maybe the Helicopter spooked them? I caught 6 total with the Bouyant and then cut out to fish the Creek.
Lake Sabrina:
Crazy winds and there was no point fishing it, I should have gone there first in the AM instead of Intake to get the morning bite. From what I could see, not many people were trying to fish when I was there because of the 40+ MPH Winds
Bishop Creek
With Sabrina windy as it was, Bishop Creek was the only option. I hit that spot just down the road from Sabrina where they dump them in. I caught 2 on a Gold Bladed panther martin. They had some decent 2lbers in there, I hooked one in the 1.5 lb range. There were about 8 dudes fishing the same hole so I decided to head down the hill.
Rock Creek Lake
Fish I caught on the fly

I walked to the back of the lake, past the campgrounds and over the inlet to fish along the steep face wall. Fishing was horrible until the sun went down. I did the best when I hooked up the Fly/Bubble combo 5' leader. Olive Matuka with red head was the ticket. It was almost dark outside but they were still going crazy over it. Cast out about 100 feet and give it a few twitchs.. BAM! Nothing big here, but numbers were good, caught 9 rainbows and 1 small brown in about 40 minutes. I am going to come back here in a few weeks to try out those flies again when the temps cool
Virginia Lakes (Little Virgina, Big Virginia,Blue Lake, Cooney Lake)
First hit Big Virginia, started out on the south west side where the inlet is... fishing here was very very slow. I did hook 2 on the Gold/Red Tear drop Cyclone Thomas Bouyant. Some guy next to me was using a huge Gold Kastmaster and he had a 7'' stocker on the stringer.
Decided to hike up the trail and toward the higher lakes....

Fished Blue lake next and wow was it Windy! Got hard to cast out so I just kept walking, no sense in fighting the wind. Not many people fishing here at all.. probably because of the wind

Walked up the trail about a mile and got to Cooney. Fished for an hour or so with only 1 ]brook to show for it. This brook hit Yellow Sierra Gold with garlic spray 2' leader on #18 red treble.

Man I'm glad I stopped in to fish this spot again. It was on FIRE!!! I bought 5 tear drop shaped Thomas Cyclones just for this lake. Rented the row boat for 20 bucks for 3 hours.. started fishing at 430pm. First cast with the Bouyant hooked one. After that, believe it or not.. I caught at least 20 fish in about 30 cast. This lake is amazing, and there are very vew in the sierra that offer up fishing like this. Small lake, low pressure and heavy stockings. After it was time to turn in the boat, I fished from the good spot along the shore with some yellow Sierra Gold/Garlic spray and started hooking them like crazy. After about 10 minutes of reeling in stockers, I started to get impatient and decided to throw out the Neon Green Bouyant and BAM! They were hittin the bouyant in almost complete darkness.:EyePop: I was shocked they would take that lure at night like that. I did manage to hook a nice sized fish but right when I was reaching for the net, he just swam away... not even fighting. I think the hook was just barely set on this one:Sad: But over all by 9pm I probably had hooked over 30+ fish easy in the 2 hours I had been there... not bad.
Convict Lake:
I was pretty tired from the hike the day before so I decided to take it easy at Convict for the day. One word describes convict lake. SLOW. Wow it was tough for everyone. Beautiful day on the lake though, no wind but it was HOT and the skeeters were biting. I walked to the back, and managed to catch 3 on Sierra Gold with Garlic and 2 on a silver Thomas Bouyant with red spots at the inlet. People from boats were asking me what I caught mine on because most were not catching... not a typical convict lake day. Tons of Euro visitors were swimmin in the lake. Most of the fish were congregating near the inlet but wern't really biting. I bet fishing was giong to be good that afternoon/night but I had to bail. Still caught a limit so no skunk here. :Skunk::Neener Neener: Be careful, there was a bear spotted at Convict lake that morning... he was walking on the trail eating the red berries along the south shore. Be aware if you're going up soon .. they are trying to fatten up.

Nothing big this trip (again) but I actually didnt' expect much because august is always tough in the sierra. I did the usual high quanity but no quality to speak of!! Headed up again in Sept and in October for the closing weekend.. so we'll see. :Secret::Fishing Catch:
