Rich and I (Hesbros) took the girls out Sunday for a day of Dodo fishing. Rich's GF (Ann) works during the week and has a tough time getting weekdays off so we dediced to go Sunday, even though we knew it would be Busy at DP. We launched around 0330 just as the ramp was starting to get busy, got a scoop of bait from Rusty at CA. Bait Co. It was great bait, but the water temps takes its toll on the bait. We went down to the middle kelp in the dark to try and make some mini macs, we found em, they were just a little too big, we kep about 20 and chopped em up for chunk chumming. As the sun rose, we were under way looking for paddys, we ran off shore 5 miles, then south, almost to Oceanside, then we headed to the 279, no kelps so far, we headeding nw towards the 279, water temp was droppping, and Rich thought we should head inshore some and look for kelps closer in, I was not sure if I agreed since I wanted to get away from the crowd. I made the turn and it was not long that we found a large paddy about 8 miles off the domes, we we a little below and outside what looked like 50+ boats fishing 3 kelps in a row. We got 5 Dorado off the paddy before we were noticed the other boats showed up. We hung around there for a few hours, (BTW, the fish are not right under the paddys, they were well away from the paddy's Sunday. So dont drive right up to the paddy and fish, start a drift near the paddy and drift for a distance). We then headed in and dwon the line again looking for kelps, found porpoise only, holding fish but we could not get anything. Kelps were hard to come by Sunday, the stronger westerly wind is taking its toll as well. We ended up back off the domes where 50 or so boats were parked, many of them split, by now the kelps had drifted further in, maybe 3 off the domes. we fished there till we ran out of bait at 1530, with no more biters, but they were there, jumping and other boats had a few hanging. We had to make a decision, run back about 12 miles to DP and get more bait, or get off the water. We decided to go for more bait, when we got to the Harbor, we considered pulling the boat out, until we seen the ramp and knew it was better to get bait, it was very busy. We got another 1/2 scoop and ran right back to the same spot. Now there we only 3-4 boats left, we got 3 more dodo's in the late afternoon/evening. Back the ramp at 2000.

Total: 8 Dodo's 5 smaller, 3 bigger.
Here are some pics.

Nice looking fish. What kind of temps were you reading at the bait receiver and out where you fished.

Bruce, the temp in the Harbor was 68.5, at 0330, it was 70-71.5 out where we got the fish. I talked to Joe at the bait dock and he told me the surface temp has been getting up to 80 in the harbot on the hot days.

Yea, I can understand those nasty temps in Dana. Same thing in Mission Bay. That bait receiver temp makes a big difference on the curing. Long Beach seems to be alot better.

Nice back up to your trip earlier in last week. Looks you are on them. :Fishing Hole:

Great job Ann on your first Dodo!!:Applause:

Becky, excellent on the schooling of the others with 4 boated. You need to frame a few of the photos and put them in the store to boost your sales!!!!!!!!!!:Envious:

Excellent report, looked like a great day on the water and maybe in my range if we I don't have to chase you all over the ocean!!!
