My son and I went out kayak fishing this weekend. It's been windy in the afternoon so we went out early as possible for kids on a weekend (9am). Water was pretty clear and sun was out. Conditions were looking pretty good (in theory that is). Paddled for about an hour or so and had just small fish on the line. Decided to paddle back to the launch ramp and head on back to get lunch at our favorite "post kayak fishing" lunch place - Hamburger Habit.

Well, we were paddling not expecting anything but all of a sudden, his reel starts screaming with that beautiful "zzz" sound. My kids always want to bring in the fish whenever dad says "guys, I think we got one..". So, I let him bring it in. I asked him to make sure it doesn't feel like a kelp and he says the fish kept tugging. Well, he then started grunting like "hi-ya.." and starts saying this is really hard. Well, he gave up after a while so I took over and starting bringing the fish in. It was really a fish. We see a brown figure close to the surface and he says "it's a monster halibut, dad!". I took a close look and concluded it was a shovelnose guitar fish and a big one at that! Here are couple action shots!

How am I going to unhook my hardbait???

As far as lure, I got one treble hook out with my plier. I was working the 2nd treble hook but the darn thing shook so bad, it broke my 15 lb line... I need to get a better hook remover.

The 4th picture on this thread has a great shot of what a guitar fish looks like. It was caught a couple of days ago by my grandkids.
