2 part report rant and rave
Kinda saved a down windsurfer student today.
Saw a windsurfer in the water that couldn't get up, but active.
Went over to check her, make sure she was ok
SHe said she was but too tired to get up on the board and re-right the sail.
She said she was a windsurfing student and that her instructor left her
SHe had no life jacket and the wind was whipping off the point pretty good.
SHe told me she didn't need to be saved be I could see that she was spent. It would have been no big deal especially with the pedals.
She was at the last row of white buoys marking the no motorized zone , lost her grip and was on her way to the bait barge.
Basically I just tied her off to the buoy.
L.A. lifeguards came over and she told them she didn't need rescuing because the instructor was coming over with a paddle board
They changed boards and she paddled in , barely.
My rant goes out to the dumbass instructor and UCLA Marine and Aquatics program for sponsoring such crap.
No basic emergency gear, no follow boat or kayak, no comm gear.
She was probably 13-15 yrs old.
I was expect this type of unprofessional behavior by some fly by night operation not UCLA.
