Robert, there is a Kencor rod that is about $ 50.00 at Turners that is a great rod. It's one of the new ones. ( Black color) I own one of these rods are they are great. I also own 3 Kencor magnaglass rods ( Orange color ) and they are my fav. They are more expensive though.

You might want to consider a St.Croix Triumph rod that Sport Chalet has on sale from $49.00 to $79.00 St.Croix rods are great too. You just have to find the right one for you in your price range.

I also suggest you look at the Shimano Clarus rods at Spot Chalet on sale $39.00 to $ 49.00 ( right in your price range ) They are great rods also. Im7 graphite blanks,Grade a cork handle, Fuji aluminum guides.

Good luck, hope this helps you

Robert , I am a huge Kencor fan. I really like their rods. The New black one is a great rod. Its not as whippy as the Magnaglass rods . For around $ 50.00 . I would go to Turners and check one out and see how you like it.

What kind of reel are you going to match up with your new rod? You already have one? Going to get a new one?

If you can get to the new Bass Pro Shop you should be able to find a great trout rod with in your price range too.

The Ugly Stik light are a great rod too. Very durable. Budman8 has one and he really likes it. It all really comes down to what you feel comfortable with Robert. I try to buy the best thats in my budget.

Big 5 usuaully has Ugly sticks in stock. I like the 5' 2 piece ugly sticks. I have a few which are my preferred ultra light rods.. I even like them more than my G-loomis ultra light.. You cant go wrong with kencor either. Ugly sticks are pretty cheap and I think they have an unconditional warranty on them. I usally pair my ultralight stuff up with 500 or 1000 series Shimano reels.

For stream fishing and Bait, I like the ultra light stuff. For casting lours, I like a 6-6.5' fenwick with a 1500-2500 series reel..

I can't argue with that set up. I have an EOL 4' Ugly Stik Jr. that I got on E-Bay, it's a great ultra lite with the Shimano 500 series reel, 4lb, 2lb test.

My lite set up? 5' Berkeley Lightening Rod, 1000 Series Shimano Spirex....ooooh sweeeet!

For the last few days here in mammoth I've been using a daiwa spinmatic x rod/ shimano elf 1000 combo and they have been great. I got the rod on troutlet.com for ~$30 and it is a 6". It can cast a bubble well over a hundred feet and is a great rod for the price. You won't regret it, I promise.
