what's going on everybody? Me and my buddies are planning on renting a skiff at Davey's locker. We are planning on using live anchovies or whatever is available at the barge for some bass. my question is, how should I rig it? I don't have too much experience with fishing live bait for bass. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The sardines the they are selling at the bait barge are way too big to fish with on a skiff.I went out Monday and used the frozen anchovies that they give you at Davies. I caught spotties with almost every bait. The sardines soaked and soaked with nothing..

So no love with the sardines. I never bought live bait. Do you think they'll have some live chovies tomorrow?

heres a cool link to check out:

one other popular way to hook live bait thats not mentioned on that site is...with the hook hooking side ways through the nose area...it does relatively little trauma to the fish and helps it stay alive a little bit longer....

In terms of using anchovies or sardines...its really open for debate. There are days when bass/halibut will take nothing else but the huge 7 - 8'' sardines, and there are days when small dinky anchovies seem to be the only winning ticket. Best advice would be to try both and see what works. If you're using frozen achovies, don't be afraid to cut them up in halves or thirds...because it would leave you open for other species other than bass and halibut to come and play also

Fished the harbor on Wed 8/6 with my son for 20 Spotties, 2 Flatties on plastics and soaking dead anchovy tail and Ghosties as we went along for 1 small Smoothhound.

The Boy got the best of me today while he was awake at the right moments!!!!!!!!
