Yes many times. They are so abundant its annoying. They get to be pretty big too. I never keep them as to too many stories from others about them having worms in them, earning them the name Wormcaccios.

Well, back in the day scientists believed that these fish were nearing extinction so they limited them to 1 fish per day. Others believed that scientists saw a lack of these fish because of improper counting methods. But for what ever reason, bocaccio are not probably the most abundant and on average, the largest rockfish available today. Boat limits of them are fairly common. You'll hear jokes along the lines of "Damn, another one of those endangered Bocaccios!" There are pushes to get this limit increased, but i doubt we'll see much any time soon.

I caught a big one last weekend. Cut it open at home and found at least 3 yellow colored worms inside still moving......they were about 1 inch long.

Boccacio = Salmon Grouper (Sebastes paucispinis).

Yes they have a ONE fish limit for some reason. Almost a pest, you catch so many at 300ft...

I dont mind the 1 fish limit, but it is almost impossible to safely release the rest.
The bladder expands when you reel them up from 300Ft, sticks out the mouth and the pressure change screws them up.. If you can safely puncture the bladder they are still stunned. Most end up as bird food or ??? Giant waste of them IMHO...

That thing sticking out of their mouth is actually their stomache. Many people puncture it to deflate their fish, but it actually ends up killing them. They'll eventually deflate themselves and swim down if not eaten by birds. I'm not sure if they survive though.

In the ocean, almost nothing goes to waste.

I'd rather limit out on sculpin, VICTOR_101 loves them!
