Headed down to San Diego with Jason “jscrib” and Martin “the looper” We took my boat the “Big Drum” and the plan was to head out and see if we could get some tuna, yellows and dodo's. Had a good plan and it worked out great. Also joining us was a good friend and funny man Mike C.

Left Shelter Island at 430a. Got bait and headed out. Decided to look for some of our own water to fish and avoid the sport boats and other PBer's that were also heading out. Fortunately my call paid off and we found our own fish and only saw one other boat the whole time.

Paddy fishing the whole time in a 1 mile radius. Every paddy had fish on it too.

First paddy had a lot of small dorado but no takers. Then just about as Jason is pulling in his Sardine, he gets hammered. Ended up landing a nice 35lb + albie on a SX with 25lb. Jason's personal best. Way to go Jason.

First fish of the day.

Next paddy same thing. Dorado. Jason dropped down to 20lb and got one to bite.

Martin dropped down an iron and got hammered but lost the fish. Vince dropped down and ended up pulling in the big yellow. 35lb.

Then a school of small dorado wanted to play.

Jason stayed with the light line and got ripped on the bass stick. Took half his line on the first run.

Turned out to be another big albacore.

Jason throws out another bait on the small dodo's and watch a big yellow come off the paddy and pick up the bait. Jason got it in and had to sit down and drink a beer.

PB Yellowtail for Jason.

Martin drops the iron and lands another toad.

Double yellows.

Mike and a nice yellow.

Every paddy had these nice yellows on them with a school of dorado. We would get one and move to the next patty. Vince with a large yellow.

Mike on a yellow.

Vince with a nice mini-bull Dorado.

Vinnie and some bloody yellows.

We had to stop fishing because we RAN OUT OF BAIT! Love when that happens. Plus, no more room to keep fish. The last stop was WO on Yellows but we had to leave them biting.

On the way in, Martin and I did a deep drop and got some rockies.

Excellent fish trip. The only people we heard were some older guy and some young kid go at it for a second. Pretty funny. We just sat back and laughed and kept to ourselves.

Thanks again to the Good Lord for another epic trip. I know we'll be doing it again real soon.

Till next tide,

Vince, it was great seeing you again. Wish I had had more time so I could have shared a bit more info with you and talked to Jason and the rest of the guys. Those are some great pics! It's obvious you guys had a awesome time out there too. The Dodo's wouldn't take a bait and we got our 2 on the troll. They were schooling all around the boat but had a serious case of lockjaw. We could have used better bait,IMHO. We did a lot better on the Alberts and Tails. I got 3 nice albies, and 3 big yellows, but they weren't quit as nice as yours. We didn't take many pics and I am waiting for my buddy to send them to me so I can write up a report of my own from Wed. We almost just fueled her up and went right back out it was so good. I am looking forward to the next trip. Hope to see you again real soon.

Mr. Red Drum,

You are the master of the PB action. You are a fish magnet. Always gawk at the amount of fish you catch on every post you make. You even do it on the surf.

Please give me some of that fish mojo.

I was just talking about that trip last weekend. Epic weather conditions and we only saw one other boat the whole day, and the kelp paddys were loaded. Sure hope to have a repeat in 2009. FRESH-ONE!!

Yeah, caught me too! Got my heart ALL started up for a second or two.

I'll just have to "settle" for Twin Lakes and dodge ice floes in the sweet water for now.

Just got back from a 1 1/2 day trip on the Orion. We went 91 miles south just off of the San Jose/Punta Banda area. Conditions were rough- 25 MPH winds and cold 57 degree water. Looks like it will be a few months before you see summer-like dorado, yellowtail, and yellowfin fishing.

This trip should have a report from DavidE or Sansou shortly.
