Red Drum

Headed down to San Diego with Jason “jscrib” and Martin “the looper” We took my boat the “Big Drum” and the plan was to head out and see if we could get some tuna, yellows and dodo's. Had a good plan and it worked out great. Also joining us was a good friend and funny man Mike C.
Left Shelter Island at 430a. Got bait and headed out. Decided to look for some of our own water to fish and avoid the sport boats and other PBer's that were also heading out. Fortunately my call paid off and we found our own fish and only saw one other boat the whole time.
Paddy fishing the whole time in a 1 mile radius. Every paddy had fish on it too.
First paddy had a lot of small dorado but no takers. Then just about as Jason is pulling in his Sardine, he gets hammered. Ended up landing a nice 35lb + albie on a SX with 25lb. Jason's personal best. Way to go Jason.
First fish of the day.

Next paddy same thing. Dorado. Jason dropped down to 20lb and got one to bite.

Martin dropped down an iron and got hammered but lost the fish. Vince dropped down and ended up pulling in the big yellow. 35lb.

Then a school of small dorado wanted to play.

Jason stayed with the light line and got ripped on the bass stick. Took half his line on the first run.

Turned out to be another big albacore.

Jason throws out another bait on the small dodo's and watch a big yellow come off the paddy and pick up the bait. Jason got it in and had to sit down and drink a beer.
PB Yellowtail for Jason.

Every paddy had these nice yellows on them with a school of dorado. We would get one and move to the next patty. Vince with a large yellow.

We had to stop fishing because we RAN OUT OF BAIT! Love when that happens. Plus, no more room to keep fish. The last stop was WO on Yellows but we had to leave them biting.

On the way in, Martin and I did a deep drop and got some rockies.

Excellent fish trip. The only people we heard were some older guy and some young kid go at it for a second. Pretty funny. We just sat back and laughed and kept to ourselves.
Thanks again to the Good Lord for another epic trip. I know we'll be doing it again real soon.
Till next tide,
