We privately charted the Patriot out of Newport Landing, on Sunday, July 27th. We kept the group small to make it more enjoyable. We picked up bait just outside the harbor, they were really good sized chovies. Captain decided to head down 'south' to try and pick at the Sandbass. As usual, he made the right call. The first spot was kind of scratchy, they would not stay under the boat for us. The next stop was the honey hole. We never moved from this spot all day. The bass were solid 2-4 lbers. Very few shorts were caught. The big catch of the day, was early in the morning, a beautiful 24 lb halibut. biggest Sandbass, was just under 5 lbs took 2nd place honors. We decided to run the jackpot a little differently this trip. Instead of winner take all, we provided 4 prizes for the 4 biggest fish caught. They included free passes, Oakley and Shimano gear. This way, we had 4 happy anglers and a very happy crew, well deserved I might add. All in all a great day on the water, great captain and crew, seas were calm and there were Sandbass limits to be had if you wanted. We left the bass biting. Total count, 35 anglers, 1 halibut, 312 sandbass.
