Sorry for the late report, but I have been busy fishing....

Took off Saturday morning and headed up the 395 for a three day weekend with my daughter. Made a few pit stops along the way...it was HOT in the Owens Valley so we headed for higher elevation to beat the heat....destination Rock Creek Lake.
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0005.jpg

Luckily those dark clouds in the background did not bring rain that evening
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0004.jpg

Fished for a couple of hours with not even a nibble, the fish I did see on the stringers walking by gave new meaning to the word "dinks". I don't recall the fish being so small in years past and I'm sure the Mt. Whitney Hatchery getting destroyed won't help matters much. Pitched a tent and spent the night under the stars just above Tom's Place at French Camp

Had a great time making a fire, cooking dogs over an open fire....and of course smores! Good quality time with my daughter on her 2nd trip to the Sierras this year. She was a little freaked with all the bear signs and was very helpful in loading our gear in the bear box  Got up early, packed up our stuff and headed further up North to the June Loop....beautiful area to say the least.

Another view of June Lake
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0014.jpg

Stopped on the way to Silver Lake to this place....cool little spot, great coffee and homemade sweets!
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0016.jpg

Rented a boat at Silver and headed to "Mario's Spot", named after a guy that worked at the boat house who told me about it four seasons ago. It has yet to let me down.
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0031.jpg

My daughter was excited to skipper the boat a little, after a brief training session she was off and running!
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0017.jpg

Got to the spot and booted the skunk right off the bat with this little bow, unfortunately it swallowed the hook so we kept it for later
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0019.jpg

Weather was warm to start and required suntan lotion and hats....that would change after lunch
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0020.jpg

Silver Lake....what an awesome place
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0022.jpg

The weather started to change as thunder rumbled in the distance, we grabbed some wind breakers and rain gear and headed back to the spot. Baited up and enjoyed the sights when LiL TD says she saw the indicator dancing, when I looked it was motionless and doubted we were getting any action. Sticking to her guns she decided to further investigate, removed the indicator and began a slow retrieve. Moments later the rod goes bendo and a short battle ensues. LT welcome to the brownie crew, great job big girl!
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0025.jpg

It started to rain, but it did not dampen our spirits or the fishing and we continued to put the hurt on the rainbows.
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0029.jpg

The weather started to get pretty bad so we finally wrapped it up and headed back to Bishop for the night
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0034.jpg

Spent the night in Bishop and decided to hit South Lake before heading home. Took a few shots on the way up the hill
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0035.jpg

Weir Pond is such a pretty place...
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0036.jpg

Got up to the lake and shore fished Boiler Cove. Fishing was pretty tough, but we scratched up a few stockers including one that was followed by a brown that would have gone 4-5lbs. Beautiful sight in the crystal clear water. Weather started getting bad and decided to pack up before it started pouring again
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0038.jpg

...not before my daughter got brownie #2 under her belt!
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0040.jpg

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/troutdog_photobucket/IMG_0041.jpg

Took off shorty thereafter and headed back down South. Got a chp escort 10 miles North of Independence as a result of the flash floods. Hopefully the residents are on the road to recovery as the damage was wide spread.

Thanks for reading my long post...

This is a lot more than just a fishing report. This brought back fond memories of when I used to take my kids up there. They are grown and gone now but the memories are everlasting. Great report and treasure these moments.

Troutdog,

That is an awesome report and the pictures tell a lot of the story. Your daughter is a cutie and it looks to me like she had a great time with Pops.
My daughter was about the same age as yours when I took her to the sierras for the first time. She loved fishing the creeks and to this day I ask her if she'll fish with me and she replies only if it's up in the sierras.
Thanks for sharing!:Thumbs Up::Thumbs Up:

Thanks for the reply Chris, you got to take your daughter camping soon....just do it where there are not a ton of bear signs!

Thank you for the nice compliment OFG :Embarrassed: Silver Lake just may be my favorite as well. Beautiful scenery, loaded with fish and easy to access. Great grub at the Silver Lake cafe too btw.

TroutDog, congrats to your daughter on the brownie.
Thanks for sharing another great report & pictures, Doctorhook,,

Much appreciated Art, glad you liked the pics and report. I always enjoy sharing the Sierra experience on FNN, I've been lucky enough to get up North for my third time this year. Hope to join you in August if all goes as planned!

Great report and pics. Enjoyed all of it

Glad to hear it RoosterTailRob, thanks for the reply. Hey I noticed the pic you took of Lauren hooked up off Trout Island at the Vine this past season is on the Team57 page, thanks again for taking those action shots! PM sent buddy.

Cool to see your daughter get some brownies. Damn shame about that flood. We fortunately just missed it last week.

It was awesome to get a little variety at the end of the line, I'm glad that she was able to understand the importance of putting these fish back rather than throwing them on a stringer. The rain and subsequent floods really put a hurt on the area, glad to hear nobody was injured as a result.

Nice report TD. I love the pics. I like that it was just you and your daughter spending time and getting some good memories together. Awesome job.

FISH ON!!!

Glad you enjoyed the report and pics MvW. Quality time together is what it is all about when it comes to your kids imo, thank you for the kind words and reply.

Yeah my daughter had a blast steering the boat, I like that pic too....especially cause she lost that bottom right tooth about an hour earlier. Got to love when the tooth fairy makes a trip to the Sierras! Finally got that digi cam, settled for the Cannon PowerShot SD750 as a starter camera....having lots of fun with it and glad I finally took the plunge.

Great report, and nice pics of little TD with the brownies...We plan on making the Sierras a yearly ritual, it's great up there...Hope to see you at Legends!

Thanks for the props SoCalGuy, much appreciated. Making the Sierras part of the summer routine for the family is tough to beat. I know you had a blast last month up at Parchers, sounds like your hooked! See you at Legends for sure.

Lauren, congrats on your first brownie. You're a lucky girl to have a daddy who takes you fishing. See you both sometime soon (I hope).

Thanks for the reply GF. Lauren was so excited when I told her she had a "rare" fish on the line. Took some explaining to convince her we should let it go, but I think she learned another valuable fishing lesson about C&R....at least I hope so! Been way to long Granny, Lauren was just asking about you and GrampaFish. Hope to see you before the big blowout at the Vine!

Very cool report TD! Nice job on the feeshees lil' TD!

Was the smoke from the northern fires bad?

I enjoyed posting the report and pics mth1997, glad you enjoyed it as well. Thanks for giving my daughter props, much appreciated. As far as the smoke from the fires up North, I honestly didn't notice anything. The skies seemed to be full of clouds most of the time, although I may have confused the two at some point.

Very nice TD, excellent pics and an excellent, what a combo!

Japo :Envious:

Thanks for the for the reply and compliments HBJapo, always cool to see you on the board. Looking forward to shaking your hand and finally meeting you at Legends....you better not flake!;)

Congrats on all the browns!

Thanks Steve, sure is cool to see a few browns mixed in with the rainbows!

WTG Lauren! Great report and beautiful pics, TD!

Thanks CityDad, maybe next time up I'll bring my flyrod....if so I may hafta hit you up for a fly or two and put some hurt on some fish in your name!;)

Indoangler I know there is going to be a time in the not so distant future that I am going to reply to a thread like this and make me think of the times I relished with my daughter. Time goes by way too quick. Right now my daughter gets upset when she can't go fishing with me, but know one day she will be too busy to spend time on the water with her "old man". I will always treasure these moments. Thank you for the props and your words of wisdom.

Thank you Terry, we both had a great time! I figured you got to take them while their young, life is a busy place once they hit those teen years. I sure hope my daughter will still want to hit the Sierras with me when she reaches your daughter's age....thanks for the reply buddy. See you on the water.

Thanks for the reply G$, my daughter is seriously hooked. I took her to the Sierras for 3 days of fishing and when she found out I went catfishing at the Vine without her I got a serious guilt trip  I guess that is better that than trying to pull teeth to get her on the water and away from the Nintendo! I am one lucky Dad to say the least.

Chris you will love it up there, hit me up with a PM me before you go. I got some info I ommited due to the "lurker" factor that will help put you right on top of the fish. I wish I had another day to fish that lake, I will be back at Silver before the season is over.

Congratulations Lauren!

Thanks Dana....as promised, no more eye rubbing when viewing my pics! We had a great trip, I want to go back already!

Thanks for the kudos TJ! I was thinking maybe the pics were a little too big, sorry I'm new to the digi cam thing. Yeah my daughter and I are trying to pay our dues and put our time in on the water together, hopefully that will bring us some larger fish down the road. Regardless we always have a good time together and I still have yet to hear her say "Dad I want to go home" while on the wtaer. I even told her when it was starting to come down pretty hard that we should start heading in and she told me "we should give it atleast another hour" I love that kid!

Thanks for all the replies...

Thanks Arthur I appreciate the reply. I asked my daughter the other day "if we were to do one more special trip before the end of the summer what would you choose?"....without hesitation she replied "we caught a bunch of fish at the Kern River last summer, lets go there!" I thought for sure I was going to here Disneyland etc. I am one lucky Dad!
