I want to start getting into Surf Fishing and was wandering, what do you want to look for when looking for spots, is there certain areas of the beaches you want to fish (next to piers, desolate spots etc), is it better to fish high tide or low tide. What types of baits to use, lures or live bait and what kinds.

As you can see I am a complete newbie when it comes to surf fishing but want to give it a shot.

There used to be a "Surf Fishing 101" article/sticky around here somewhere... perhaps search for that term.

Yeah, that's the one.

But be warned; The surf can be very addictive. You may switch to salt full-time...

I guess I need to go try surf fishing and get good before next Summer for Wingnuts Summer Surf Event.
