Yea it looks like a spotfin croaker. They've got that black spot on the side by the pectoral fin. And sorta have that silver color with a slight blue-ish tinge.

yeah the 2nd seems to be a croaker...real hard to tell as these photos are real dark and not clear....

check out the jety over there sometime....get on some sandbass and Halibut.

Try getting some clearer pictures

howzit,

first off nice post, congrats on the shark, ive been trying to catch one of those for years, but as for your other fish i have to disagree with the others. though the pic is under bad light, and the colorations definetly resemble that of a spotfin, as well as the little spot behind the fin. upon further inspection i noticed that your fish is lacking an important feature that spotfin croaker have (and all croaker for that matter) is a submissive mouth, meaning his mouth should be on the underside of his head for bottom foraging.

heres an example from mexfish.com fish identification,

Fish Identification Photos: Spotfin Croaker, Spotfin Drum, Roncador stearnsi: The Spotfin Croaker is characterized by its metallic blue-gray overall appearance, blue-gray tint on the top, silvery lower body, very faint undulating series of lines along its sides, and a very characteristic large black blotch on the base of its pectoral fin. The Spotfin Croaker has an elongated body with a blunt snout that overhangs a recessed mouth. It does not have a barbell. The gill covers are finely serrated.

this fish you caught has an obtrussive mouth, like that found on makeral and other fish-eating-fish, fish' ( try saying that 3xs fast)

so with that in mind and reviewing the other facts about the fish, i believe what you have there is a baby white sea bass, the reason is because they too have that type of mouth, some have that color, and every WSB from juvy to big-dog clemente's have a small black spot behind there fin also. my other thought was a selema without the stripes. but congrats either way, fun times at the pier.

note gotfishues comment on on the obtrusive mouth and note the depression on the upper profile of the head...two striking characteristics to a queenfish.
