My hubby and I are planning a trip down to San Diego and we wanted to go deep sea fishing. Not being from the area, we have no idea where to go. This would be for only the two of us so, no way do we want to go on one of those charters. I am used to going out of 22nd street landing and just wanted to hit somewhere different. Any info would be great!
Thanks!

I have always preferred H & M landing out of Point Loma/Shelter Island area. They seem to be less crowded as opposed to Seaforth and Islandia. More room to fish and less of a hassle in dealing with tangled lines. If you go on the half day boats, I am sure you will have fun catching barracuda's and bass.

In my experience, in the summertime all the 1/2 dayers or 3/4 dayers are packed, regardless of which landing you prefer. Just plan accordingly (ie. go during the week).

I totally agree with Sansou on going during the midweek. However, do call the landings before you plan your trip to see what is being caught and who has less people on the boats. Good luck.

What kind of trip are you planning? 1/2 day, 3/4 day, overnight, multi day?

I've gone out of all of the Big 3 landings and they are good. H&M Landing, Point Loma, and Fisherman's. Lot's of great boat's to choose from. I've only done overnight and longer trip out of San Diego so I've never hand any experience with their 1/2 or 3/4 day boat's.

Parking can be a pain in the rear especially during the summer months and when the fish are biting. Be prepared for a long wait because their parking lot is small. If you don't mind the walk there's a open parking lot you can use too but that would be about a block or two away. If you park there since there's two of you I would drive to the landing, there's a little cul de sac right by H&M and you can drive into there and drop off your gear and not have to go into their parking lot. Your partner can watch the gear while you go look for parking.

Another choice would be Seaforth Landing. They are located in Mission Bay. Take the same exit as you would for Sea World and it's past it. Lot's of free parking. I've only been to Seaforth to go on the Legend and I had a good time.

Dogo,
My cousin, Harlan Berk, is the owner/operator of the Gallilean (http://www.gallilean.com/) out of H&M. Tell him I sent you and he'll give you a good deal on a trip on his 65 footer.

Dos Gatos out of Seaforth would be way good. They do 3/4 day trips and its private yaht style.
