I will be on my way to Catalina next week and was wondering if anyone has some tips for fishing in the Avalon area by kayak. (Besides wearing 1000% Deet spray to ward off the sharks!)
As well any info on charters that are less than $1000/day would be appreciated as well.
In Montana, the rivers are just clearing up and a good summer is on tap. Already grabbed a few nice Cutthroat from the pre-runoff rivers!

i have never fished from a yak but you should be able to catch tons of bass in the kelp close to the island use swim baits or try to make bait. good luck if i had a kayak i would make the trip there as well

they should work..in like that pale orange...but if i were you id buy some big hammer swimbaits in 5in and buy some in 7in there are alot of big calicos over there holding in the kelp id try eagle point big calicos over there but watch out for jaws!! haha.. if i were you also id throw flukes with darter heads 1/2 ounce pearl white flukes, pink flukes, shad flukes all in 5inch just bounce em on the bottom you can get big calicos, sand bass, and monster halibut.

You might want to get some Gulp baits in the with pearl color. I forget what they are called they are about 4" long (not the swim bait type they are more like bass assasins). Fish them with about a 3/8 dart head. 15 lb test. is about right. You might lso want to avoid the west end. Do a shearch on Topless, Shark , Catalina and you will see why.

Yeah, read the story about the shark in the West Cove. If it's your time I guess it's your time...I guess it wasn't that lady's time. How many people can say have done a two-step on a Great White?? I guess deet doesn't work for sharks like it does mosquitos. haha
I have secured a kayak for the week, so I will let you know what happens.
Thanks again for all the info...it is greatly appreciated.
