Rented a beach house in Pismo this past week with the our family from Sonora.
Arrived Sunday afternoon and right after dinner City Girl and I took her cousins
on their first surf fishing adventure. Got on the water around seven pm to find
a loooooong, genlty sloping beach.

Lots of raisin-sized crabs, and plenty of giants, but very few in the middle.
Made bait and waded out into the breakers. It was cold. City Girl played it
smart and stayed dry while operating the camera. We had lots of grabs using
just the tails and roe of our gigantic crabs, but couldn't make any stick.
Switched to good ol' fish crack...

...and it was wide open.

Fished until we were shivering to violently to cast

Got an early start on Monday afternoon and City Girl and her Country Cousin
cleaned up on spots we'd scouted that morning. The fish were a bit smaller, but
still plentifull.

After dinner, we went out (without the camera of course:Embarrassed:) and picked off a
bunch more including two very nice walleyes. Country Cousin nailed the largest
of the trip at about a foot. It was, in his words "hella-cool."
On Tuesday, we notced that there were far fewer crabs around... don't know
why. There were still a few beds of tiny models, but the bigger ones seemed
to have disappeard.
While we were eating dinner that night, we noticed pelicans crashing bait about
a quarter mile out. Watched as the birds worked from the air and the whales
attacked from the bottom. Suddenly this appeard right in front of us.

By the time we had politely and patiently eaten our hambugers the activity had
pretty much ceased. Found that the perch fishing had slowed up quite a bit
too. Had to work all our spots just to land a few dinks.
All day Wednesday, we watched birds, whales and seals feeding just off-shore.
As the crabs had yet to re-appear, we decided on a change of pace and
headed for the peir.
Bought a couple Sabiki rigs and, as none of us had ever fished this way before,
observed the other anglers for a bit.
This gentleman was flat-out killen' 'em.

His name was Giussepe and he invited us to come over and fish next to him. It
was crazy. Smelt, mackeral and sardines, sometimes four at a time.

Finished the trip with a grand total of five different species. A very, very cool
time. Many thanks to all of the anglers here who have shared their knowlege
and helped us rack up a fine mess of "hella-cool" memories!
