I will be in Santa Barbara this upcoming 4th of July weekend for my sons basketball tournament. I wanted to do some fishing from the pier and the shore but I've never fished that beach before. Any advice on setup, baits, and locations would be very helpful and appreciated. What types of fish should I target? Hoping to get a Hali.
Thanks

I don't know about the pier area... but I do know there is some good perch fishing in the area.

Gulp Camo sandwork 2" carolina rigged should do the trick.

soft-shell sandcrabs will kill if you can find 'em.

Thanks City Dad, I actually caught 2 perch on the Gulp sandworms. They were real small so I didn't take a picture of them.

Sorry, TH, I just saw this. If you are fishing from Stearn's Wharf, what I used to do was, use a light Bass pole and a Sabiki rig to jig up some baby Herring and the like. Then, on a heavier set-up (I use a Penn Jigmaster on a Daiwa Sealine pole), with either a slip-rig (Carolina rig with an egg sinker but no beads) or a slider rig, hook on the live bait and toss it out on the Marina side of the pier. There are some HUGE Halibut in that area. Also, the Jetty on a high tide would produce everything from Hali's to Rockfish (even caught a nice Lingcod off there once). It's also a prime hoopnet spot for bugs ... in season, of course. ;)
