my buddy's nephew is visiting the states from Cornwall, so we decided we needed to setup a trip and show him some CA style fishin'. We started the American experience by driving up to santa barbara in a big Chevy SUV, McDonalds for McMuffins and freedom browns, and 7-11 for drinks.

We got to the marina at 7am, picked up some bait, and where fishing by 7:30. First spot was some kelp for callicos. pretty consistent pick, and the calicos where nice sized.

after a while we moved spots to go try to find some lingcod and taco party meat. The capt. brought us to some structure and it was on. lots of big chocolate bass and a few deep water calicos. Mike brought a new bass setup, and since we were fishing pretty shollw decided to use it to drop on the bottom fish. after reeling up a few chocolate bass his pole goes bendo. big lingcod on a fast action rod was pretty fun to watch.

while we were bottom fishing i was zoning out looking at the oil rigs. all of a sudden i see something big jump completely out of the water and then disappear. pretty sure it was a T shark going nuts. there was a lot of bird activity all day and a lot of bait, so we decided to try to troll and maybe pick up a t at the end of the day. after about 20 minutes we reeled up to check for weeds. Mitch yells he's got something and all start reeling in super fast and get ready for the battle. wasn't a t, but a big ol' barracuda. after that we headed in while Romona cleaned our fish.

Hi mrjonez,

Fantastic report and pictures !! Much appreciated ...... those extended reports!!

One question: How long has that guy had his left foot replaced with a fish tail? Where do they do that sort of thing?

Capt. David and the Wavewalker crew are my favorite 6 pack charter to go out on. it's cheaper than most and we always get into something.

Bangkok. And you can make a vacation out of it.

i might of mixed up the order of the pics and thrown a deep water calico in there. we were fishing around 100ft and caught maybe 4 calicos deep.
