What would be a good motor to have for my 12 foot boat? Want to take it out to DVL.

Beerboy has one, kind of loud but for the price they are what they are. I would go with a used four stroke around 8-10 hp. It sucks when you have boils or want to go accross the lake with a 5 hp or less. I have a 14' valco with a 15hp yamaha four stroke, I love it!!

I had a older 14 valco.
I found a older 7.5 hp Honda for her.
It worked OK, but the moter is way to heavy for that boat.
The older honda ran about 90Lbs.
If you are lucky you can find a used one for about $500.
You can also go with a Yamaha. I have one of those(5hp 4s).
They are closer to 75Lbs. The nice thing about the Honda is
It's a two cyl. very quite, very smooth.

Here is my boat, thought I post some pictures of it in here. This is my first boat I ever own, it's 12 feet long and about 47 inches wide. People I know ask me why get a outboard motor for it and just use a trolling motor, and I tell them because DVL will kick my butt if I only use a trolling motor, wont get any where on DVL with just that. Hoping down the road some time to get my hands on a bass boat, but plan on getting a new truck before I get a bass boat.
