alright fellow FNN junkies, heres what when down the past two days, yesterday 6.20. my buddy and i got off work early so we decided to hit up a local rock cropping to see what fish we could come in contact with. we got to the spot at peak low tide so we had the full upswing to fish, started throwing my drop-shot with a few hits here and there, then i get hit pretty hard. always get the first fish in is my motto' so here he is, the ever questionable short fin corvina, my first one caught while the sun was still up. he bit a charteuse berk. minnow 3".

he also was my first one with two fangs evenly spaced from the middle upper lip, my close up didnt quite come out so this is the only other one i have.

after the skunk was off i could chill and enjoy my situation a little better, i stayed with the chart. minnow and it paid off with an o.k. spottie, but thats two species down.

checked with my friend, he was getting hits but nothing substantial, this was his second time fishing the ocean ( the first time was two nights earlier ) so he grabs his trout setup, starts casting a lip ripperz, lit'l ripper, not five minutes into it he get a ferocious hit and brings up his first ocean fish on fresh h2o gear. sick.....

i was stoked that his first was a spottie.

after that we chilled had some drinks, and got our baitfeeders out, hopeing for some big flat fish action or something, well to our disadvantage the stingers were out in full force, but it kept the rod bent, heres a few.

all were about the same size

then im chillin with my buddies dad and hear my baitfeader scream, so i run and grab it, wait for it to go out a little more, click it over them full bend, im all stoked thinking i gots me some kind of big flattie, well when i bring it in after a little fight i realize its a good sized spottie, cant complain at all.

that finished off my my fish count for the evening, none of it came easy, all fished were worked for, but the experience, my friends first fish, meeting his family and sharing wet lines with them was all good, real quick want to thank them and hope our fishing paths cross again soon. back to the post, before i left however my friend hooked in to another stinger, he didnt even know he had a fish, good times.

so next day 6.21, i had a meeting in the morning so i couldnt get to the surf before the wind kicked up, so that dictated my decision to attack another of my favorite rock spots. when i got there i realized i left all my important things at home, all i had was three 4" gulp natural shrimp, some skirts, and a used storm wild eye monnow. oh'well, when the cards are dealt, either play 'em or bluff, you know. so instead of crying i got to business and worked with what i had. so heres where it gets interesting. i tie on one of my shrimps on a drop-shot and start working it. not two casts into it im hit, full bend constant running, drag and all. then i feel two bumps and nothing, rods striaght, "what the..." i reel it in to see the fish ripped my 4" gulp straight off a #4 worm hook, with the hook weedles so it pulled two conections. so i put a second on, this time i lip hook it so it flows better, three cast later bam, another strong hit, im fighting drag, reeling in against constant pressure, to boing', a straight rod again, and again stolen bait. "what is happening in my life right now", over the whole situation, which was a situation, not to mention the mental battles i was having re-playing the situation, ( but thats a different web-site ) i decide to put on the storm minnow i had, ive caught lots of fish with this bait, not to mention the particular bait i was using. anyhow back to pictures, heres my first landed fish this morning, i fooled him on the drop-shot.

then i thought i would try something totaly new and different for me, i decided to drop-shot one of the skirts i had ( these were in my bag for a three quarted day trip, not intended for shore fishing and defenitley not the drop-shot ) anyhow i tossed it out, and no b.s. i connected first cast, nothing big, not a fight at all but it was the principle, and not to mention the immediate responce. i was stoked with a huge grin, a little halibut.

i moved down to where i caught my monster spottie a month ago, tide was coming in but still pretty low, clear water with some life in the shallows, i tied on my last gulp shrimp and started working the area, i made a cast that ended up hitting a dock and not going where i wanted it to go, but the past has taught me to fish it properly nomatter where it ends up, well this time it paid off. i could see my bait as it got closer in, popping it then letting it drop, well on one of the drops this spottie charges out of the shadows and hammers my bait, i set hook and the battle was on, he tried everything, swimming into rock holes, shaking his head, it was crazy, im using a six foot diawa procyon med/heavy, and i needed every bit of the backbone, at one point he positioned himself into a hole and i had to move quickly down rocks and literally yank him out, it was sick. 8lb. izor xxx smoke did not let me down either. well i hope i didnt bore with the words but i like reading other posts that share details. heres my prize fish for my two day adventure
