Needed catfish bait for Sunday. Johnny, Joe, Tony, and I decided to fish Redondo pier. We arrived at 5pm and stayed till 9:30pm. The mackerel fishing was full speed. I had a blast fishing these things. I haven't fished mackerel for years, and actually had a great time. People where catching them by the buckets, it was so wide open.
Time: 5pm-9:30pm
Location: Redondo Pier
Fish Count: 100 plus macs for the four of us
Bait: Cut mackerel and sabiki rigs
The average fish was 1/4lb and largest was about 1lb.
We took want we needed, and gave the rest away, to the people on the pier. It was fun, but very crowded. I 've forgotten how much fun mackerel fishing was. If you need catfish bait, now is the time. It will also be a great time to take someone fishing, who has never been. They 'll have very little time to fish though,they'll be too busy catching instead.
