Jumped aboard the Mardiosa with Osiito and few other buddies. We fished the front side instead of joining the parking lot on the backside. Captain reported that a late morning bite has been happening here. Well it did happen but only for Osiito. He was fishing for calicos when the WSB took his bait and broke him off. http://www.getbentsportfishing.com/forum/images/smilies/embarassed.gif We picked off some more calicos then decided to move around.
We went to another spot close to some boilers. Water was amazingly clear. We could see hali's and croakers going after our baits. No one home at this spot. Move again. I hookup into something and think its the right kind. Takes me around the boat then gets into the kelp. It works itself out and ends up being a batray. Dang it. They sure do pull hard. Next up is Aaron's son who lands a nice 10# Halibutt. Way to go lil man.
It's getting late in the day and Capt has one more spot thats been producing in the afternoon. We start picking off bigger models of calicos. Stupid Macks are around also. While flylining my bait, it gets picked up and I'm thinking Oh man this is a nice checkerboard. I'm trying to bring it in but my Newell keeps freezing up, I couldn't get any cranks. Finally worked it to the boat and the deckie gaffs it. I got a small barely legal WSB but the first one on the boat. We only had a few minutes left in the day so we fished real hard but no more decided to bite. We got tons of calicos though.
Mardiosa is an awesome boat and great crew.
Small WSB but first of the year
