I'm thinking of getting a new watercraft. Something faster than float tube speed, that is. The questions I have are: 1)How big of a battery would I need to power a trolling motor? and 2)How much does it cost to register a vessel? Thanks in advance.

Oh sure SoCal, don't tell us what your getting dawg. I think it's 25.00 to register plus the taxes, so it depends on what you pay for your new mystery ride. As for your battery that depends on what size trolling motor you get. Soooooo, what boat? what motor? ;)

Sorry Ron dawg, but like my preferred length for a tag end on my dropshot, that is classified; confidential information. All I can say is IF and when I get it :Rolls Eyes: ... I'll be sitting above the water, it's faster than a float tube, it's not longer than the Rontoon, and I'll be able to take along all the tackle I'll need.

As for the motor, I'm thinking of maybe a 40lb. thrust like this Minn Kota:

Although, my wife wants me to get this because of more thrust

What do you think? Any suggestions on batteries?

Can't wait to see the new watercraft and what you chose. ;)
What I think Ron is getting at is you need to look on the motor's directions to look up the amp/hour requirement on the motor before choosing a battery. That way you can purchase a battery that is for sure a bit overkill and get a nice long lasting charge on the water. Those links do not provide the current draw of the motor.. only the thrust output.

What do you think? Any suggestions on batteries? Like TJ said you'll need to chose a motor first. Not longer than the rontoon and sits above the water? Maybe one of those little 8 ft tupperware boats?

Yep, something like that. I was going to buy one at BPS, but didn't want to rush into it. I saw that one on craigslist the day I went to BPS to check out the pond prowler and trolling motors.

Then I found this one today: [URL="http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/boa/723540187.html"]http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/boa/723540187.html (http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/boa/723540187.html)

Waiting for a reply from the seller.

That one rocks SoCal, looks bigger than the first one. Plenty of room to stand up and fish. Like it Dawg, bet you can put a small outboard on there as well.

Not sure when yet, but soon. I hope :Rolls Eyes:. Whichever one I decide, or end up with, you know I'll have to slap one of these on there.

I bet you can hardly wait until they have implantable electrodes that can be placed directly into your brain allowing you to just think about where you want to go and there you are!!!

I am starting to think that this toon stuff might just be an addiction. Where will this madness end?

Good luck SoCal.

C'mon Ron, you know it's hard to bass fish without having your hands free.

Go for it TJ! A foot controlled toon would be sick. That was my plan before I saw the Pond Prowler type boats.

Hey O_L, this toon addiction will end when we all have boats. LOL. Then it will be an electronics addiction. You're probably right, it will never end.

Eletronics or electrics? Those shocker boats seem to really clean up on lunkers out there at Perris!

I have a Toon powered by an Endura 30 with a Red top Optima 50 ah battery. I have motored from sail cove to behind the island and back on a single charge numerous times. I usually have the motor set to 4 (5 being highest). I would say top speed is maybe 5mph. I do always have a second 12 ah battery to run my electronics and as a backup just in case but I have used it only once.

I also have a 46lb trolling motor that I use when it is choppier but it does not last nearly as long even at lower setting.

Goodluck
