Well sorry for the late report guys, but after taking off five days to go up to Mammoth, when we got back this week, our work week was very busy, imagine that! I took over 250 pictures, but I’ll only share about 50 with you guys.
Well our Mammoth Trip was from June 5th and came home on the 9th. That meant for a good Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to fish up there! One thing before I start was I was really amazed at how few crowds were in Mammoth fishing. It’s not every weekend that you get to have 3 different lakes all to yourself out there float tubing.
Well there was five of us that came up from Yucaipa; Rick, Tracy, Mike ( The Chief, as he is Rick’s dad and our Boss), My Dad Jack, and Myself. We met up with Rick’s brother Mike in Bishop as he came over from Las Vegas, so we stopped and made sure all of the tubes were secure and let out air out of Rick’s tube.

When we go to our condo it was amazing! We all put in $100 each, and then the Chief decided since we worked our butts off the last two weeks, he was going to upgrade where we were staying so we went from a 1400 sq’ condo to a 3500 sq’ condo! Major props to the chief for that one. The condo was simply amazing. It had a great view from the balcony, a sweet pool table, sweet surround sound, a huge kitchen for our great meals, and a great décor inside. Snowcreek is just an awesome resort to go to.

The first day we got up there everyone was planning on a lazy day, so I took Tracy out in the rental car and showed up the Mammoth Lakes Basin. He was just in awe as I shown him around. Of Course I had to be sure to stop at Lake Mamie, as It’s my favorite place to go in the world. If I could build a cabin on the shore for myself, I would. We then Went over to the falls that go into Twin Lakes. There was still a ton of snow on the ground there too!

The next day we all slept in and decided to hit up Lake Mamie. My Dad didn’t go as he was still feeling sick. Fishing was slow for the day at Mamie, and the wind was howling, but I had a good days catch, with 9 fish overall, one was a 4lb. 5 oz. and the other was 2 lbs even. The Chief only got one fish but it was 5 lbs even. Rick, Tracy, and Lil Mike all got 3 each. Here and and at all off the other Lakes I was either tossing Lip Ripperz trout worms, or the Mini Ripperz jigs. Same for Tracy as I got him hooked on the Lip Ripperz now. The Chief however used a natural Berkley worm for his big fish. We kept both of my fish and stuffed them for dinner. Mmm so delicious…. We were the only ones out float tubing the lake, which was going to be the theme of the trip.

That night we went into town and saw Zohan. Save your money and wait for the DVD!
The next day we went into Gull Lake, and man was the fishing slow here! Instead of catching trout Rick and I hooked into a ton of Perch. It was every cast for perch, I was I could have said the same for Trout. I didn’t get any trout until my very last cast, standing in my tube, just getting out of the water.

After grabbing some lunch at Giovanni’s, Rick, Tracy, and myself decided to hit Sotcher lake, as the road to Devil’s Postpile just opened this week, and there was no fee to go down. When we go to Sotcher there was a handful of people leaving, and we float tubed the lake for 4 hours, with no one else on the Lake besides Mr. Coyote. This lake is stunning and we caught a lot of fish here too. We did catch a lot of trout there with white tip fins. Anyone have an idea why the fins were tipped white?

On Sunday we fished Twin Lakes from about 9 till 4. Once again it seemed at first we would be the only ones tubing the lake. Tracy and I stayed in the top lake and killed the trout, while Rick, his brother Mike, and the Chief fished all of the lakes. Rick finally got into the fish and caught himself two 4 lbs, and three 3 lbs throughout all of Twin. I got myself a sweet 4 lb 14 oz, and Tracy caught himself a 1lb 8 oz. Cutthroat right by the falls. All of the big fish here were caught on Orange Lip Ripperz Worms.
