Wow!! talk about red tide!!!! I have never seen it this bad before. A jetty in Long Beach produced the first couple butts and it took forever to get them. My son doesn't like fishing from jetties so we divided the time we were out and fished a jetty half the time and then Belmont pier the other half.

At Belmont Pier it seemed the red tide wasn't as bad but overall, not too many fish were caught by anyone. My first cast off the pier I hooked up with my 3rd butt using a Berkley® 5" PowerBait® Saltwater Jerk Shad (http://www.berkley-fishing.com/prod.php?k=96562&sk=96229&p=PURMSWJS5-GSD%20(1109369)#MSWJS5-PW (1109374)), rigged dropshot.

A long time goes by with a couple bumps here and there. Then near sunset, I swithched out the pearl white jerkshad to a Berkley® 7" Gulp!® Saltwater Jerk Shad (http://www.berkley-fishing.com/prod.php?k=96422&sk=96346&u=GSJS7#GSJS7-BPN (1123844)). I tossed it over the rail, nearly straight down and began twitching the rod as I walked to the left. SLAMMM!!!, my rod goes bendo, against the rail and proceeds to snap:Shocked:.

This all happened in the blink of an eye and I'm thinking " It's got to be big!... It better be big!!, It just broke my pole!!" Well, I get it up to the surface and see that it's no bigger than the other 3 shorts I pulled out earlier. I was like WTF!! this guy pulled with the power of the 3 others combined!!.
1 thing I will never do again is drop my rig straight over the edge with my rod just above the rail:Envious:.
After that we went home.....
