Went to Marina Del Rey planning on hitting the reef for some bass. Got bait from the Inseine guy, great bait, only $5 much better than the other guy. I made the trek to the breakwater only to find the swells a little bigger than what I was comfortable with so I stayed around the breakwater trying for some bass or anything that would bite. No luck after an hour and a cigar. I decided to try my luck at halibut. Dropper loop with a 4 oz. torpedo sinker. I was trolling enjoying another cigar and kept getting hit but couldn't hook anything. All I got was raked baits. It probably happened about 4 times. I got tired of that b.s. so I tied on a trailer hook and then wham! I caught three halibut (first time ever in the yak) and 1 sand bass within 45 minutes. It was an adventure trying to land the halibut. Those fish just don't like nets  . I tried my best taking pictures. I would guess two of the hali's were legal size or close to it. The third was clearly short. I released all fish to fight another day. Once I get more experienced, I'm sure I'll be able to get better pics. I am definitely hooked on halibut fishing and might not go out to the reef for bass anymore! Just kidding.
