Ive been planning a trip back up to the loop with my family this time for some relaxing. We talked my mom into coming along to watch the kids so my wife could get some fishing in for the first time since father's day last year in Mammoth. We left at 3:30 a.m so I could get a full day fishing the first day.

We got a room at the boulder lodge which was decent then headed to gull to show the 5 year old the park and let him unwind from the 6 hour car ride. The wind was just as I left it last time blowin 30 mph and swirling so fishing was difficult but nator had told me about a spot on june so we headed that way and the wifey hooks 2 up before I even tied my line up.

We caught stockers on everything we threw mini jigs, thomas bouyants, kast masters, power worms, lip riperz and even rapalas. We didn't get anything over 2 lbs and released everything in the water.
After a quik nap we went to gull to see if we could get away from the wind at gull meadows out on the boulders. It was more of the same on everything we threw smaller model stockers none even picture worthy. We did see a lot of big cutties and browns patrolling the weeds but they weren't interested in my plastics.
Here's me on the boulders watching big cruisers underneath me

It was a good day but no big ones we went back to the hotel to let the kids go swimming and have some pizza and beer in the room.
Both kids really loved the indoor pool

The next morning was horrible the wind was unbelievable. We couldn't get away from the wind or cold so we hiked and checked out Rush Creek and other little creeks. My wife took some great pictures of flowers, mountains, and played with her camera for a while. My mom bought me a leadcore pole setup from june lake for a late b-day present so i was determined to get out and use it. When I was leaving a lady came up and weighed in a 10.8 Lb. rainbow. I wish I had a camera but it will be in W.O.N
About 12 the wind died enough to get out on a rental at Gull with my fly pole and the leadcore. I trolled and caught all over the lake on olive buggers on the type 4 sinking it was great. I tried all kinds of rapalas and spinners and ended trolling 4 colors and an olive bugger to break the pole in. I did lose a few on the fly pole due to inexpierience. Two of the ones I lost rushed the boat and I couldn't gain line on them but they were great fighters.
The next day I was lucky enough to jump in with one of the dock hands and his son for some trolling and some casting to holes in the weeds. I caught some more fish up to 2# on buggers and leach patterns. At one hole I had browns swiping at my flies right at the boat but i couldn't get them to commit. The dock hand laughing saying they were just teasing me. It was another great trip and the weather is getting warmer and I feel like I need a float tube trip up there again in 2 weeks to try some new tricks. Hopefully I'll have replaced my water proof camera box and won't have the wifes digital slr to worry about, even though it takes great shots.
Here's some deer and empty coves at Grant and a para surfer at the dam of Grant
