Eddie and myself were in contact all week to plan a trip out of San Diego on his ride the HESBROS on Mon or Tue and a back up plan to get out into the NPH together again and improve on our last trip together.
We ended up at NPH on Tuesday after picking him up at 0500 and a quick stop at Big Fish Tackle on a hunch for some Ghosties as a back up if they decided not to chomp on the plastic's.
We had the boat wet at 0700 to a strong rising tide with a lot of current and early wind push up the channel. AS I parked the truck Eddie was busy attaching some rigs to his poles and as I returned I noticed a lot of perfect potential smelt bait near the launch ramp and decided to take a moment to try to gather a few to entice a nice Flattie to eat for later action.
Eddie hooked up on his 2nd cast with some sort of Look a like Lucky Craft sardine before we had even untied and warmed up the boat.
Turned out to be a strong 19" Flattie.

Our initial target area had now changed and we worked from the ramp down the channel to the PCH Bridge for no more. Moved to another productive area for a few taps on the Swim baits but not the normal bite of the past few weeks.
Moved again and Eddie picked up a Spottie.

A short time later my rig that was bottom bouncing with a Ghostie picked up this little Flattie of a different variety. Maybe a Diamond Turbot of some sort of Sole. Looked different than any of the others I had previously caught and very small. He somehow ate a large Ghostie on a 2/0 Circle Hook.

Eddie was working out a bird nest on his reel when I asked him to Photo the little guy. When he returned to his pole the line was going out as it was in free spool and Fish-on. A Rare MidShipman!!!!!!

Moved to work a Beach area for no Flatties this time, then returned to where there was at least a little action. I picked up my first Spottie on the Swim bait.

We then were all over trying to pick up the action for a few more here and there.

It was a grind but as we both agree that it is not always about the catching but friends getting together and having a great time. Again the NPH produced 7 species between us as well as some of a different kind!!!!!
Thanks for the time out there Eddie.
