Caught this guy on the Backside of Cat Tuesday Night. What Is It?
Released him to fight another day.

My first trip of the season. First time Launching at Sunset Aquatic boat ramp also.(HH) No one knew of any bait receivers there. Frozen squid and Jigs was all I had to work with.
Swell was up, Dirty water, Water Temp 59.9 on the backside.
Metered a lot of fish. But no real takers.
Breaking waves kept me out of most of the spots I wanted to hit.
Good day for a 101 mile test run of the boat.

Hey TC, glad yer back safe. Sunset launch means a trip up to the inner wall to the bait barge or getting candy from the boat at the island or make yer own. So on 101 miles what was yer fuel burn? Just curious.

If the squid boat's are at cat you can usually get them on channel 11. Long Beach Carnage has been getting into finbait and squid over at Cat so I would hit them up. If not call them at (562) 455- 9928.

Thanks CR
Burnt about 70 gals. With lots of idle time.
Now I know I have the range for San Clemente.
Guess I was a little over confident in the frozen stuff and iron.
I figured since I screwed up by not getting bait.
Then seeing a small fleet of pvt and squid boats on the backside.
Figured I would do things differently, And make that my overnight spot. Then if the WSB showed. I would get me one.
Woke up Wednesday morning to dirty blackish water.
It was probably that way the night before. Geeeeez.... :Beat Stick:

Washed her today. Now im ready to go fishing
Well almost, I haven't spooled my reels with the spectra I bought back in Dec.
That's what too much computer time will do for ya

Sheeeeshh! for 100 some miles.

Better put a call out to one_leg for the next trip.
I did 110 in mine on less than 20 gallons. (Lots of Idle time since I don't trust my boat to restart) So it still sounds like a good trip. Nothing like getting away from it all. Ahhh, any company on board with ya or was it really a solo trip?

Fish_sauce is correct, it is a HORNED SHARK. I use to sell these back in the 80's. Fish_suace is also showing a good second picture of a SWELL SHARK. These dumb things usually curl up in a ball when landed and often swallow air to inflate their bellies.

Horned sharks are the most mellow type of shark I have ever encountered. I have also caught a few on hook & line and they did not fight at all. The thorns are venomous.

It was a 100% solo trip.
So what your saying is......
Where I burn 70 gals of fuel on a 100 mile trip.
Where I can stay out comfortably up to four days. Fishing day and night 24/7

Where as.... Your small light day trip boat.
You would have to return to port every afternoon. Making the trip four times to get the same amount of time on the water as me.
Where you would run 400 miles, burning 80 gals of fuel.
At 15kts, You also got 20hrs of additional commute time.

I think my inflatable goes 100 miles on 6 gals

or,,,

I put up the canvas, bring the tent, porta potty and bbq and my coffee pot. I've slept on the deck and it wasn't bad. I have a lot of room for a 20ftr when I'm by myself.

Where we launching from?
