My daughter and I left OC Friday evening for her first trip up to the Sierras to spend some quality one on one time together. I am very fortunate in that Lauren shares the same passion for fishing that I do, evidenced by her reaction when she hears I have gone fishing without her....not a pretty site!
Drove until about 1am and took a 5 hour snooze at the Coso Junction rest stop, very well lit and plenty of other travelers around to ensure safety should you ever need a place to stop. Made a quick stop in Lone Pine at Mickey Ds for a quick breakfast and java, while leaving the lot I noticed a hot air balloon above the Whitney Portal area. How cool of a view you must get on that ride, gonna hafta look into that. Anyone do that trip yet?
Got into Bishop Saturday morning, grabbed some ice and headed straight for my go to spot on South Lake...I have yet to be skunked in Boiler Cove and the streak is still well in tact. Hiked down the trail towards the lake and stopped by a little snow drift to snap a pic and throw a couple of snowballs

The wind was whipping pretty good on the lake and catching was slow for the first 20 minutes and then someone flipped the switch as the bite was wide open for the next 3 hours on the inflated crawler and salmon egg combo. Nothing huge, but plenty of action to keep us busy.

We even got a little variety as this little brookie grabbed our offerings

We fished pb as well as power worms, but they were not as productive although they put a few fish on the stringer as well. My daughter did a great job casting and setting the hook on her own fish, I was obviously very proud of her efforts.

I lost count of the amount of fish we caught after 30 or so, we kept the 4 that did not make it to fight another day

Stopped by Weir pond to have some lunch....amazing how even peanut butter and jelly taste better in the Sierras! We watched a couple anglers ply the water as we enjoyed our fruit and sandwiches

Checked out this spot on our way down the hill, ever hear of it?;)

Pulled into the lot and see a familair sticker on a familiar truck

Unfortunately OFG, Granny and Mike were busy fishing somewhere so we left a note on the car that we had stopped by. Got a chance to meet Smitty's brother Evan, very nice guy who shared some helpful info as well. Thank you for the tips! After hiking along the creek and having a snowball fight we headed back down the hill.

I asked Lauren if she wanted to go to Bishop and check in to our room or go fish some more. A quick response of "lets fish some more" was music to my ears, so we headed over to Intake2.

We saw soem HUUGE fish cruising the shoreline, but could not get anything to eat. After a half hour we took a short hike and called it a day. So what do you think of the Sierras Lauren?

Sunday was more of the same at South Lake, except this time the fish were keyed in on the pink power worm amino egg combo. We only fished a couple hours, but still managed close to 20 fish all c&r'd. Enjoyed some more of the sights, collected some rocks for the aquarium and headed on home through the Owen's Valley.

We had an awesome trip and cannot wait till the next time we share the experience together. If you are heading up to Parcher's later this month, you are in for a great time.
