Well, I finally made it up there...
Weather could not have been better. It's been years since I've caught the weather so nice, especially since people that went up on Memorial weekend and froze to death. Here goes... (pics up tomorrow, I have only a few minutes)
Gull Lake;
I hit gull over by the "rock" mid morning with the intention of limiting out quick. Nope.. took a little work. Lures were not hittin at all.. tried Lip Ripperz.. spoons, everything. Finally started to get some fish on the power bait and garlic...ended up catching a limit but left disapointed especially since I know there are some monsters in there. Seemed slower than usually at Gull though, not too many people catching.

Simply awesome! There are some nice pools here and the fish were very active... I was gettin hit a lot on Thomas Bouyants in Fire Tiger, Gold, Watermelon colors. Nothing big, but I did limit out on fish to 1.5 lbs. This is the area not too long ago where a guy caught a 9lber for Blake Jones derby.. I'll be back to this spot soon Mesquitos own this place though, bring the bug juice or you'll pay dearly.
I have a new favorite lake...
Little Virginia lake!

Still lots of snow up here at 9700 ft

This is one of the several fish caught within 20 minutes of casting at Little Virginia
Tear Drop Gold/Red Thomas Bouyant was the HOT HOT ticket

I decide to check out some new spots.. I have worn out Bishop Creek Canyon, Convict, Rock Creek etc..
Didn't know what to expect, but I'll tell you this. It's the float tube capital of the world. This lake is not big, I'd say a smidge bigger than Jenks... but there were over 20 float tubers on the lake. :confused:
The action here was incredible... Found a spot not even 200 feet away from the car.. just to the right of the boat ramp. Casted out with a tear drop shaped gold/red Thomas Bouyant Bam! Fish on.. first cast. Within 20 minutes I had over 10 fish and at least 4 missed bites. Nothing with size, but everything at or just above a lb. Dudes next to me couldn't believe that just about ever cast I was hooking up. From what I saw on the "big fish" sign in the lake store.. fish don't get above 4lbs here. I probably could have caught a 100 fish in 2 hours if I stayed but I was in a rush to get back down the hill to try out some other spots while I was up in the area. All you need is a rod, 1 thomas bouyant, and a net and you'll have everything you need to limit out and more here.. Parking lot is small, so it's a gamble if you're going to get a spot. From what I read there are several small lakes within 20 minute walk from Virginia lake.

Fishing was not that great, but I did catch a few browns and 1 rainbow on a Gold Red Bouyant. Local guy from "performance anglers" said there are definitely some 15lb browns in those big pools below the bridgeport resevoir dam. I didn't have the luck to catch one, but there is fishing action there. Be prepared to lose some lures, it's barbless and there are TONS of big rocks in the water to hook on to. Next time, I'm going back there and I'm going to hit it just before dark.. see if that helps the action.
Convict: Hit convict on my last day.. rented a boat and headed straight to the back. I have to admit, I struggled for most of the day.. that was until the sun went down. i was in the north west part of the lake.. anchored about 3 feet from shore in a tree lined section of the lake. I was fishing bait when suddenly saw some MONSTER trout swim by in groups. I saw one that was well over 10lbs cruise by about 2 feet under the boat. I switched to jigs.. I had a few chasers but nothing hit. Right at sunset.. I swapped out to Sierra gold in yellow on size 18 hook. I used just enough bait to cover the hook and that was the ticket. Casted out about 6 feet deep (5 feet off shore) and I caught 10 fish in 20 minutes. One after another, but nothing big.. I knew big ones would come but the wind came up.. and strong. White caps across the lake.. I was already 10 minutes late turning the boat back in ..s o I bailed. I considered walking to the back to fish more, but the wind was crazy. at least 50 mph gust by 6pm.
Pictures of the above should be up tomorrow.. I took some amazing shots worth checking out..Over all, a good weekend, easily over 100 fish caught in 3 days but nothing big again.. I'm going up in a few weeks back to convict and then again to Intake 2 and Rock Creek Lake to go for some monsters.. of course I'll hit Virginia lakes again too. :Cool:
