Last week I bought a new boat to me, a 04' 26' Striper and today was the first official day of fishing on it so I was on the hunt for some Blood!!

Headed out toward Topanga the mission was halibut or T-shark. I wanted to do some bounce balling with some rigs I made so I slow trolled two tigs for halibut and put out two deep diver Rapalas. Within ten minutes of the troll one of the green back rapalas was hit and the 30 lb accurate drag was screaming. Reeled up the other rigs and the fight was on.

Had BigRed backing up the boat to try to get some line back on the reel. I knew it was a better model, it kept taking line as we were backing down on it. We played this game for over an hour. Then we would get it close and it would swim back to the bottom 50' or so. The shark ended up over a mile from where we hooked it till we got it on board. I handed Red the rod and grabbed the tail as be gaffed and beated it. The shark was as done as we were.

Just what I wanted to break in the boat some Blood!!

We ended up trying a few spots for some halibut but had no luck and ended up coming home early so the shark wouldn't spoil.
Off to the filet table.

Well this is the first and last T-shark for me to keep this year. I usually let them go but since its been a while since I have eaten one, and haven't had any for a year or so I decided to Kill, Kill, Kill and grill it up.
On a side note on the way in to MDR harbor a woman in a sail boat was flagging us down. So we came over to see if she needed some help. She said her husband passed out and stopped breathing. I called the coast guard on the VHF and gave them our gps position and within five minutes they were on seen. The problem was the sail boat was moving and they need to get on the boat. Long story short the man passed away. We called this morning and found out the news. We are sending the Coast Guard a letter that they will forward to the lady to give our condolences.
