Last week I bought a new boat to me, a 04' 26' Striper and today was the first official day of fishing on it so I was on the hunt for some Blood!!
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn308/bagged7104ss/striper_-_outside.jpg

Headed out toward Topanga the mission was halibut or T-shark. I wanted to do some bounce balling with some rigs I made so I slow trolled two tigs for halibut and put out two deep diver Rapalas. Within ten minutes of the troll one of the green back rapalas was hit and the 30 lb accurate drag was screaming. Reeled up the other rigs and the fight was on.

Had BigRed backing up the boat to try to get some line back on the reel. I knew it was a better model, it kept taking line as we were backing down on it. We played this game for over an hour. Then we would get it close and it would swim back to the bottom 50' or so. The shark ended up over a mile from where we hooked it till we got it on board. I handed Red the rod and grabbed the tail as be gaffed and beated it. The shark was as done as we were.

Just what I wanted to break in the boat some Blood!!

We ended up trying a few spots for some halibut but had no luck and ended up coming home early so the shark wouldn't spoil.
Off to the filet table.

Well this is the first and last T-shark for me to keep this year. I usually let them go but since its been a while since I have eaten one, and haven't had any for a year or so I decided to Kill, Kill, Kill and grill it up.

On a side note on the way in to MDR harbor a woman in a sail boat was flagging us down. So we came over to see if she needed some help. She said her husband passed out and stopped breathing. I called the coast guard on the VHF and gave them our gps position and within five minutes they were on seen. The problem was the sail boat was moving and they need to get on the boat. Long story short the man passed away. We called this morning and found out the news. We are sending the Coast Guard a letter that they will forward to the lady to give our condolences.

First of all congrats on your boat! Secondly nice catch! What a way to break in that boat with blood all over the place. Way cool! I plan on going out soon to target those beasts. I can't wait, I got shark fever! lol :) So sorry about the drama at the end of your trip. At least he passed in a beautiful place, the ocean. I hope his soul rests in heaven.

Nice catch!!!

The pictures make the ocean look a lot calmer than it was if you were out on Sunday (I was out there)

Were you running a heavy leader ahead of you Rapalas?

Again, congrats on a nice catch

BTW, bitchen boat

DrewRanch we will have to hit sbi very soon big makos or yellows.

IN2DEEP- It was sunday morning, we got out a little after seven and hooked up before around 8. The waether seemed very nice till we started heading back to mdr. It got a little bumpy but not much. We were off the water kind of early thoe, and close in. I was not using any leader because I left it in the garage. I am very lucky he did not pop, I could feel his tail slapping the line everytime he surfaced. I usally like 200-300lb florocarbon at least a few feet.

Sorry to hear about the sailboat skipper. You guys did the best you could under the circumstances. Big congrats to you and BigRed on hauling in that shark on 30lb test!! Great way to christen the boat, of course another way would be to strap some jerry cans on it and make a beeline to San Quentin....

Hey Pat congrats on the new boat man. It looks sweet!

It looks much bigger than the picture that Mike was showing us on his phone...lol

Looks like you really Christened the boat with Big Red. I'm sure Gary is going to add one of those blood shots to his screen saver :)
