Catalina Trip and Cuda Hunting

So went over to Cat after hearing about the epic bite and it was a "shoulda been here yesterday" kind of a day.

Long story short, one bite, no wsb or yellows, run over to clemente west end, lots of calicos all released, a ling, bonies......the went home.



then this morning, wednesday may 28, I thought i could get my fishing boner taken care of by the wide open cuda bite....well that didnt happen. Couldnt find them, nor did any of the boats. Came back to newport at noon. Tossed a plastic grub on 25lb test at the gas doc and caught a spottie, then messing around, I throw out a dropper loop chovy while waiting for boat to fill up (500 gallons at 4.80 a gallon, roughly) then we hook up on a batray. Passed the rod around, about 60 pound ray. We had more action at the fuel dock then we had all day ....oh well....went back to park the boat and caught another spottie on the dock.

no cuda .

I heard there were quite a few boats out there. Nice parking lot pic. Atleast you still managed some fish. Those are some chunky looking spotties.

Although it was a slow day of fishing, at least you got out!!!
