MAN VS WILD

My friend Mark and I headed up to the LOOP for 4 days of fishing (not enough). We stayed at a place called "Whispering Pines" between Gull and Silver lake. An excellent choice. They have a special called "name your price". We got to the room for $59 a night. 2 queen size beds, full kitchen, cable TV, microwave, VCR, free coffee, Danishes, cups of oatmeal, hot chocolate and the best Jacuzzi and sauna room. Perfect after a day of tubing. Weather the first 2 days was perfect around 80. The last 2 days were very very windy.

Got into Bishop at 10am and stopped in at Mac's and got a couple of things then hit up Jack's for an awesome breakfast. With lots of time before we could check in we stopped off at Convict Lake. Water was super clear and fish were biting. Caught and released a bunch of stockers. We both agreed not to keep anything under 2lb. After 2 good hours we headed to the room to check in. After check-in we went to Gull Lake. We walked around the park area looking for a good spot. No hits for about 20 min and then "bam" the fight was on for me. It was a 2lb German Brown. Caught him on a Thomas Buoyant. A beauty. It got kind of windy and we headed out to Silver Lake. Nice and calm over here. Fished till dark and caught a bunch of small ones and a nice small Brown. We also saw a deer on the way back up to the room.

Day 2 woke up and headed to Virginia Lakes. As we were leaving Frank (Whispering pines owner) told us that a bear was going through all the trash cans last night and asked us if we heard anything. Mark heard him and kept looking out the window I was crashed. We got up to Virginia lakes to find out the big lake was still frozen but the lil one was half open. Not one bite at lil Virginia. After 30 min of no luck we took off to Twin lakes (Bridgeport). Set up at the marina and a couple of small ones including another small brown. An hour passes and then "bam" a 2lb rainbow. This one had a beautiful tail. Caught on an inflated nite crawler dipped in roe. Mark caught one of those "white fish" I think that's what it's called. Another good day of fishing. Burger Barn best burgers in Bridgeport.

Day 3 we headed out to Convict Lake. Got there and it was too windy. So we went to Twin Lakes (Mammoth). Still windy but decided to hike to the far side of the lake where Twin Falls was at. Didn't catch anything here but did get a couple of bites. Mark caught a 1lber on a jig. The wind got worse so we had luch and took off back to the Loop. Got to gull Lake and saw that there was no wind on the east end of the lake. Got the float tubes out and it was on. Fish were on, C&R alot of fish, all were stockers. Used a nite crawler on 2lb line and trolled around. The sun dipped below the mountains and decided to get out. It was a B@#%H cause the wind started blowing hard and against us as we try to paddle out. For a while it felt like we weren't going anywhere. Was tired from all the kicking to get back in.

Day 4 we got up and just decided to get packed up and just go home. Still very windy. Before we left we stopped off at Silver Lake cafe. Great breakfast. I suggest you stop by if your in town. We had a great time but was happy to know I would be seeing my baby daughter in a couple of hours. I really missed my lil fishing partner on this trip.

Great photos and report. I hate to know the fuel bill. Thata a lot of places in 4 days. Great report

It wasn't that bad actually. My buddy and I split the bill. He filled it up before we left $50.

Before Olancha we stopped at Cheveron and we had half a tank, topped it off $30.

Day 2, topped off in Lee Vining $33.

Last Day, topped off in Bishop $38

Made it from Bishop to Ontario on a half a tank.

PT Cruiser is pretty good on gas.
