In case some of you haven't heard, there is going to be a brand new fishing derby coming to the Bishop Creek Canyon. I've been working on this derby since the Long Beach Fred Hall show and even though we barely got approval in time, the derby is a go.

Inyo county is funding the derby and we're very happy about it!

Here is the skinny.....

The event starts June 1 and goes all the way through June 30th. That's good news for the folks attending the 57 hours in the Sierra event!

Tagged trout will be stocked throughout the stillwater fisheries of the Bishop Creek Canyon, namely....

South Lake
Lake Sabrina
North Lake
Intake II
Weir Pond

The tags are worth $50, $100 or $500. There will be four $500 tagged trout swimming around in the canyon! Prizes must be redeemed at the Bishop Chamber of Commerce. Proof of registration is required to redeem your prize. Registration is only $5 and is free for kids 12 and under.

Everyone who participates in the derby is entered in a raffle for a $500 prize, a fall fishing package and other prizes including tackle and a sweet wood carving by High Sierra Wood Carvings.

We're also planting a whole bunch of non-tagged alpers in these lakes to keep fishing hot all month.

The current event sponsors and raffle prize donors are...

Inyo County
Lip Ripperz
Okuma Fishing
Fish Taco Chronicles
High Sierra Woodcarvings
Adopt-A-Creek
Parchers Resort/South Lake Boat Landing
Lake Sabrina Boat Landing
Cardinal Village Resort
Bishop Creek Lodge

Folks can register at the following locations starting June 1.

Parchers Resort
Bishop Creek Lodge
Cardinal Village
Creekside RV
Lake Sabrina
South Lake
Culvers Sporting Goods
Mac's Sporting Goods
Brock's Flyfishing
Owens River Outfitters

I posted the official press release on the Nocal F/W Articles board here. Thanks to all of our sponsors...this should be a very fun event.

I'll see ya up here!!!

Thanks Jared,

It sounds like a great derby.

Do they know where the tagged trout are located. Did they specifically plant a $500 trout in one of the lakes/ponds mentioned, or did they dump them in willy-nilly?

I don't want GPS coordinates or anything like that. Well that would be nice, but not very sporting.

Could they be in the creeks also?

Hey Jared,
Is it $5 for the month, or day? How is that going to work...

And can you make sure some of the $500 tagged fish end up in
South lake....?;)

$5 for the MONTH - not too shabby huh?

I sure hope a $500 tag comes out of South....but there's no way to know till people catch them. LOL!

The tagged fish are going in each of the lakes mentioned. Nobody will know how many $500 tags are in each water but there are definately 4 of them in the canyon lakes, along with the other $50 and $100 tags.

None in the creek although Adopt a Creek in cooperation with Piute Palace Casino are planting tagged fish worth Casino Vouchers in the creeks.

Any idea of how many tagged fish there will be?
