After a great night at the Corona event, I headed for the Newport Dunes resort(thanks for the info VG!) to meet up with ScaryCary and ReelinRonnie for a day of fishing in NPH and beat the heat. SC had been wanting to launch his boat for about a month now and we finally had the opportunity!

With the 80 plus degree temps the bay was a busy place, but still a pleasure nonetheless!

Another day in paradise in So Cal...

Hit the first "spot" and it gave up a double hookup for SC and I right off the bat....a micro sandie for the Capt and my 2nd ever spotty, skunk be gone! Drop shotting small plastics proved to be a good idea.

The same spot produced SC's first ever spottie...the smile says it all

If you see this boat docked up, you may want to fish the adjacent area for spotties

Decided to try and find the barries that I had heard about so we fished near the bait barge....got quite a few followers on the 5/8oz prism kroc, but there was a ton of bait in the water. Took a nice cruise around the bay to check out the sights, all the while I was trolling a LC Tenn Shad. Finally found a few willing to put the bend in our rods....they were hanging right in front of Davey's Locker. Guy fishing the dock area caught a nice wsb, but it was 2 inches shy of making the dinner table. The cudas were on the small side, but put up a nice little battle.

We got slammed on the next pass as well, it was Ronnie's turn to boot the skunk!

We rounded out the day with a few more pencils, but the bass proved elusive the remainder of the day although we gave it our best shot. Had a great time with some great guys....looking forward to the next time!
