Met Fishinmofo and my buddy Jeff at triangle square in newport at 6am. Beerfoolio overslept and missed out on a stellar day! ;) We loaded up every thing into my boat and launched outta Newport. After clearing the harbor, we fished the end of the jetty for all-u-can-eat mack attacks where we made 10 macs-Perfect t-shark bait! We flew down to the hospital and put out the rigs! There is absolutely TONS of bait in the water, mostly dines. A HUGE pod of common dolphins were feeding around Newport Coast and the birds were thick overhead. We were surrounded by dolphins at 1 point. Then a while later, I spot sum larger fins that turned out to be a pod of bottlenose that are MUCH larger than commons, and they wanted to play! I snapped sum pics as they rode the bow of our boat, but they didn't turn out:(. We also spotted several jellies, and several sunfish up to 5 feet long!
30 min into the troll I notice 1 of the outriggers gets smacked, but the outrigger clip held fast! GRRRR.... A bunch of pandemonium ensued as we scrambled to take positions, grab the line, drive the boat, reel in the other lines etc.! Jeff grabbed the rod and pulled a few times to disengage the clip, and also managed to set the hook on our fish! Fish on!

45 min later we boat it and drag it for an hour.

The thing was still alive, so we pulled it in and knifed its gills.
Another 20 minutes and he's finally dead. Probably ran around 90 -100 lbs! We saw only one other boat hook up! Sorry for the overexposed shots. I think I had it in the wrong mode or something.

We trolled till around 2, almost to Dana and back to Laguna, then moved to fish inshore the rest of the day for some nice calicos! We picked on the boilers around Laguna and even scored a baby hali, and barry. The baby barrys were thick in some areas. We also got a great view of a huge ray next to some boilers. It was a gorgeous day with a wee too much sun, but better than inland! LOL!
