I love Gull Lake...so beautiful ! we hit up tons of places in the week we were there. The Twins, BP reservoir, E. Walker, robinson creek, lee vining crk, Lundy lake, green crk, and the June Loop. enjoy the pics. cant wait to make it up again in July.

lures used - bouyants, roostertails, castmasters, superdupers, tazmanian devils, rapalas, trophy sticks, panther martins

bait used - crawlers, grn PB, salmon eggs, pink Power worms, trout jigs

Nice pics. The pic of the lower twin inlet, I think that's my buddies and I fishing the point on the other side of the inlet. Oh yeah judging by your pics you and your gang could make that hike no problem. Read the regs before you go.

KB

KB,
the lure that produced the most fish consistently was the red/gold thomas buoyant on the twins and reservoir. (on the walker, it was rapala's in the rainbow and brown pattern)- crimped barbs

for bait Pink powerworms were killing it everywhere, or a powermouse (Chartreuse pb and bubblegum pink powerworm combo)

also good results on half crawler inflated w/ a salmon egg.

hope this helps !

That's a Tui Chub, the truly only native fish to the Eastern Sierras. Although many species of trout are native to California, most of them were planted in the lakes in the Eastern sierras up to 125 years ago.. No I"m not a professional on this topic, just happen to read an article tonight in a mammoth newspaper..

I submitted the photo to the dfg, and they said :
Hi Travis,
You caught a mountain whitefish, Prosopium williamsoni. This is a sportfish in California, but it is not commonly harvested. They usually bite on small flies or spinners and, as far as the Eastern Sierra goes, are only found in the Walker Drainage. Though they look more like a minnow than a trout, like trout they have an adipose fin located just behind the dorsal fin on the back.

Up to five mountain whitefish may be harvested per day during the open season for trout.

Hope that helps,
Curtis Milliron

Hello Travis,

Thanks for sending along the picture and information on where you caught the fish. What you caught is a mountain whitefish. This fish is one of the most widely distributed species in western North America. In California, the are commonly found in streams and lakes of the east slope sierra. The mountain whitefish are underappreciated game fish, most likely because of there sucker like appearance. They are very good tasting if you every wish to keep one for the table.

I have provided a link to some more information about the mountain whitefish.
