Revisited my favorite fishing location with a different tactic in mind. I went out this time to try fishing from as much beach as I could find within the Harbor. I arrived on the peninsula side and was able to find parking on Alvarado St. near Bay Isle. The spot had previously produced some nice Spotties for me from the boat but now I was on the beach.
First Cast was a disaster with a Bird Nest big enough for an Osprey to lay her eggs on. Spend 20 minutes cutting the mess out of my newly spooled reel and loose about 20 yards of line.:bang:
Retie and cast again to get snagged and snap off the swimbait.:bang:
Retie and cast for Fish on only to find out that I had not actually found the proper piece of line that was still intact with the spool so off goes whatever it was with my swimbait in its mouth along with another 20 yards of line.:beat:
I Have now spent about 45 minutes of very frustrating time messing with the gear and thing about giving up on this great new exploratory trip I had planned and go back to how I usually fish the harbor from the public docks!!
My 4th cast of what has now been an Hour produced this guy.

As I was taking a shot of his release he spanked his tail and splashed sand allover the front of my lens of the DigiCam. Did my best to clean up the mess.

Next 10 minutes produced 2 smaller ones:

Caught 2 more shorts in the same area but the camera had issues due to the sand in the lens area.
Moved to Balboa Island and eventually worked the whole island again from shore and when the opportunity arose jumped on the legal platforms to pick up a nice sargo, 2 more shorts and finished the day with a bat!

For experimenting with a new technique I fell it was a successful day and was disappointed to not pick up a targeted Spottie!!
