What set-up is your favorite for targeting sharks from the beach?

Also, I noticed a lot of guys sit waaaay far back from the water - which tends to p!ss off joggers who have to duck under their lines. Are there any rod holders that you could stick in the sand at the water's edge without getting washed away?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Tim,

Bob Sands has a nice surf pole holder that is taller than most and has a wide blade added at the bottom where it digs into the sand..... Ive found this holder to be stable and it withstands quite a bit of wave surge before it becomes loose..... then all I do is re-stake it.

It also has 2 extra pole holders that angle to the sides.. perfect for holding your light gear when that Leo finally strikes.... the pole holders are a bit lobger than most and this helps keep your rig a bit more stable. In addition it has a nice 24" ruler etched on it,

Here's the best pic I have of it....

i rig for them sharks with a dropper loop, 3 oz pyramid weight and about 2 feet of line and then a 3/0-5/0 octopus hook and a nice slab of perch meat, or mack meat, or squid but the first is by far the best.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm gonna build me one of those pole holders!

What sort of rod/reel/line combo do you like?

The pole I was using there is a Daiwa Emcast Surf Pole

As for the reel, Ive since changed to a Daiwa ECP4500 Emcast Plus Spinning Reel

ive been wanting to build one myself....a longer, heavier duty pole holder.
went to Home Depot to check out the raw materials last week...and the material cost almost amounted to around $35..(expensive aluminum!)..i might as well buy one from a tackle store, right? it would probably be better than anything i could piece together from scratch...

anyway, if you do end up making one, let us know how it turned out!

Tim....

I like the 11' EC 1102MHFS .... IMO it seems perfect for the Leo's and SNGF.......
you might want to check that pole holder at BS 1st ....as its less than 30 bucks if I remember right.

BTW.. I have a Ghost Shrimp pump for ya the next time I see ya....

Good luck sharking CD! Usually one fine spark plug, a big mustad and a gob of squid (or stabbed up small bsp) does the trick!! Some call the rig a "Carolina rig", but that's just fancy talk for ocean catfishin'.....
