i decided to go out this morning and we headed to the 150 for some rockfish ... everyone on my boat was new to rockfishing and 1 of them never even caught a fish before LOL so i knew i had my hands full ... overall we had a great day no legal lings but we did catch 4 that were just a few inches short weather was great no wind and the swells were 1-2ft

I've never fished the salt in California before but, those rockfish, they must put up a fight and/or are good eating because they look ugly as hell.

Rockfish don't put up much of a fight. Give it 10-20 cranks after you set the hook and they pretty much stop fighting. They do taste good though. They make awesome fish taco's, and other great eat's.

Thanks Ricky-Ray for setting me straight. If they're good eats, maybe, I'll get past the uglyness for the tasty eats and try the salt!

Most people think they are ugly because of their big bulging eyes and a big old "tounge" sticking out of their mouths. What most people who don't fish for them don't know is their eye's bulge out because of the pressure. Most of the big rockfish come from depths anywhere from 150ft to as deep as 360ft. When they come up that fast the air pressure will build up in their air bladder and cause it to come out of their mouths and also cause their eyes to bulge out of their sockets.

Same principle as when a scuba diver get's "the bends".
