Cabrillo Beach Float Tubing

So Howstar and I set out on an adventure to fish Cabrillo Beach in our float tubes...We launched about 7:30am and for the first 30 minutes or so all we got were small stricks but we never reeled in a fish...Soon after Howstar reeled in a smaller sand bass, 1 halibut (not legal but still about 16 inches), and 1 perch. I also reeled in a small perch but was not having much luck...I know soon told Howstar we should head back to the beach when I thought I became snagged on the bottom due to kelp and eel grass. I played around trying to get me line free for about 2 minutes and after backtracking still didn't work Howstar gave it a try my reel'in in my line...to his surprise the line moved with him and as he continued to reel in my line, he noticed a brown figure moving beneath him....To his surprise it was a LEGAL size halibut on MY line....I reeled it in the rest of the way, measured it (approximately 25-26 inches), and then gaffed it to remove the hook- so I could bring it home for the parents. No sooner had Howstar taken my picture with the halibut, I removed the hook and he wiggled free of the gaff and disappeared into the depths below! Awww....a sad moment for all of us out there but hopefully I will catch a bigger one next time!

yes...there is a small launch ramp there...i'm not sure if there is a fee to launch, but there is one to park. i think it runs right around $1 an hour to park!

Free to launch...just pay parking. Free parking from Mon-thurs during off-season.

Congrats on the feesh. Invest on a game clip next time. Gaff then attach to the clip...for sure you will have fish on the dinner table.

How much sunblock does it take for the two of you to fish on the tubes all day?
I have been thinking about investing in some stock and the company that makes the sunblock you guys use would be the perfect vehicle to increase my profits.
