South Lake 4-18-08 w/pics

Well...not a fishing report but a conditions report.

The ice is still thick. Aprox 1ft of clear ice and 2.5ft or so of compacted snow ice. Things can change fast but with a cold front expected to come through this week I would expect ice fishing conditions to be good. There are a few pockets of open water in boiler cove caused by some warm water springs....I'd avoid coming to close to the edges of those holes. There is a decent sized section of open water near the inlet also.

Oddly enough I didn't see any fish at all in the few open areas. The fish usually hang right under the ice edge so I guess it isn't that surprising but I thought I'd see at least a few cruising near the inlet. I did see a whole bunch of brookies in the back of the lake in the stream. Bishop Creek has a ton of fish right now and they haven't even stocked yet.....saw a nice brooder at the Willow Camp pipe.

We won't be open but I may be hanging around....I'll definately be at Bishop Creek Lodge Friday and Saturday nights.

Intake II is ice free and the snow is pretty much gone around most of the shoreline.
