My Buddy has a 19' Glasspar he's looking to take out. The only problem is it has a 90 HP motor so he doesn't want to take it outside the harbor until he replaces the motor with something bigger.

So my question is what are some good areas to target calicos, sandies and the like inside the breakwater??

I've seen post about the wall but I'm assuming these are on the ocean side of the wall and not the harbor side so, we need some help.

Anyone wanna help??

I have been out on my bro's boat and have caught fish on the inside of the break wall. We were just hanging out on a nice Sunday afternoon, drinkin a few brewski's. We had fun. Not a really a serious fishing trip. Just nice to get out.

What is wrong with a 90 HP motor?
I'd take that thing to Catalina on a good day!
I'd just make sure to join a flotilla.
Just my :2cents:

Wish mine was a 90 - I have a 50 on my 19 footer and I've taken it to Catalina several times.

I'm guessing it's 90hp, not 9.0 - a 19 foot Glaspar with a 9hp would be severely underpowered. That said, if it's in good running condition don't be afraid to go past that wall, as long as it's not too choppy - just check the marine reports. You can always fish Horseshoe Kelp (about 3.5 mi. past the wall), or Palos Verdes, just hang a right out of Angel's gate for a couple of miles till you see the kelp. Get a waterproof fishing map of the area to help you out. I'm also assuming your buddy has all the safety equipment, including a radio.

Good luck!

90hp on a 19' boat... I would guess top speed about 30 mph (?)... plenty for the open sea. Good advice to watch the ocean reports, get Vessel Assist and use common sense. Here's a link for the report.

Thanks for all the advice!! i don't know why he doesn't want to take it out to the kelp or flats. Maybe because his last boat he had a 150 and this is just smaller. Anyways I'll let him know the concensus and we'll hit the water!!

Peace

Howdy,

Two of the most hard-core anglers are fishing PV and surroundings in ..... a rubber ducky and ...... a tin boat. These awesome rigs give no quarter, as fishing machines, to anything on the water for their purpose!

Fish inside and if conditions permit fish the outside entrances, then outside.
