Hey Now, BETTER LATE THEN NEVER....lucky me, I got an invite, went fishing Catalina, got a call from a good friend of mine Barry Wiggins, he
is the professional photographer on the San Diego long range boat
" Independence ", ( I've fished several 10 day trips on this boat, its AWESOME ) we went fishing last weekend, for a Family's & Friend's
trip, Owner's/Capt's. Paul and Mark were taking a weekend off, after
doing allot of boat servicing/repairs from all of last years fish killing trips.
I arrived at the San Pedro 22st. landing around 8:30am on sat. got on board and saw Barry busy taking pics of all the passages. went to my assigned stateroom an dropped off my carrier on bag, stopped off in
the galley to see Chef Ed, for some fresh coffee & some Indy's world famous fresh hot out of the oven cinnamon buns... MMMMMMM .....
Capt./crewman Sean untied the boat around 9am. it was a beautiful day, we headed for the New, San Pedro Bait Barge for some live anchovies & squid......OMG .... i had to look at it twice, Man....i though i was down in San Diego getting bait for a 10day....VERY NICE SET UP !
Indy got to Avalon around 11:30am, harbor master boat got us hooked up with a nice spot. Crewman Sean chummed up a wide open Bonita & Calico bite, after a few hours fishing, the red cup crew got together to go see
the island. Later that evening a guy and his girlfriend on a very nice
private boat pulled up along side of us he was looking for one of his
friends that was on the Indy with us, his friend was ashore so he said
he would be back later, but before he left he asked what we were
having for dinner that evening, my reply was rib-eye steaks,
boneless chicken breast on the grill, he said sounds good but how
about some fresh White Sea Bass ? Next thing i see is him pulling out
2 - 20+lb. WSB from a large cooler and he says how about some
surf & turf......... I said I'm ...ALL .IN !
Sean got busy with his fillet knife and dinner was almost ready, we were just waiting for Chef Ed to get back to the boat. Little later the red cup crew got back an dinner was being prepared, baby green's salad, steaks, WSB, chicken, baked potato's & corn on the cob.
Capt. Paul's Birthday was on Sun. so we celebrated by singing
Happy Birthday to him after dinner and had his BD cake with
ice cream for desert .......
Sun. morning Capt's. Mark & Paul got the Indy warmed up around 4:30am an we untied and headed SW side of the island, man there was a allot of private boats fishing the WSB on Sun. after a few hours with no luv we headed out for some rock fishing .. got on the anchor and Bam wide
open again, reds, salmon grouper & sheep-head .........
WHAT A GREAT TRIP ....
