Those are SAND DABS in the Sole family of flat fish. Make great Ling Cod bait...

The other one is a Sculpin (Scorpion fish) Yes the spines on fins are poisonous as you found out (the hard way)...

Really don't know sorry :(. I was out of the room when my dad turned it on. Thanks. Those sanddbabers ( Spelling?) were bitting like crazy!!! I would let the line go down for like 20 seconds and stop let it set for a minute reel it in and BOOM one on each hook.

Hehehe. How should I handle them? I was thinking of getting a small gaff.

Hmm next time I catch some bigger ones I will fillet them and fry them suckers.

No need for a gaff or special handling device. Thumb them like any other bass, or handle them carefully. You can also cut off the spines after catching, but make sure to dispose of them quickly, as they can still sting.

Those sand dabs won't get bigger than what you caught. BTW, be careful as they are somewhat bony.

ThanksKK
