Trying for Lings...Tips?

Heading out on the Spitfire out of Redondo tommorrow...wondering how to rig for lings...
Do I need to use wire? Are sanddabs the best bait? any info appreciated...Thanx:)

Sand Dab's, small mack's, small octopus are usually great bait for Lings. No wire needed, typical setup is usually a double dropper loop rig, or a jax jig with a teaser above it. I would use a big hook if using the above baits at least a 4/0 or 5/0. If your using sardines then like a 3/0 or something like that depending on the size of the sardine.

Check with the crew in the morning when you get on board and they will let you know the best way to rig for it.

yeah, what ricky said....my preferred method is a dropper loop (hook on bottom) with a 7/0 stainless longshank hook, a 60 lb leader, and a 12 oz weight....40 lb mainline...live dabs are the best....

Steve I think you are referring to a reverse dropper loop setup. Yeah that would work too. Be prepared to lose sinkers.
