Hey All!

One of my old coworkers mentioned a lake in the eastern sierra's where there is a ferry boat and it takes you across the lake for some great fishing. Can't seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know this lake?

Thanks!!!

They may be talking about Saddlebag Lake, up near the top of Tioga Pass, right outside the entrance to Yosemite.

You can ride a ferry across the lake to the 20 Lakes Basin...

Here's a link to their website: http://www.saddlebaglakeresort.com/

Have fun!

Fishing can be very good, especially the backside and where the creek comes in. Bonus is different types of trout are in the catch.

Fishing can be great. You can fish where the creek enters the lake for easy limits.

You can also do some hiking in the Twenty Lakes Basin. There are several lakes with Brook and Golden trout. The downside with those lakes is that there is no guarantee that you will catch anything. If you do decide to hike, please, please, please learn and practice catch and release. Those lakes are backcountry lakes and are *not* stocked. Last year, we caught some Golden Trout in one of the lakes, and you could count the fish in the lake when viewing it from above. The point is, the fish populations are low, and in many of these lakes, taking fish from them could damage the viability of the population.

I need to grab a CD, and will post some pics tomorrow.

Last thing - these lakes are at an elevation above 10,000 feet. You should check with the marina to see if they are open yet. I know some high country lakes are still frozen....

Have fun!

Found the pics. These are from last Labor Day weekend. With the lack of snowfall this year, I can imagine things being dryer...

My son, his friend, my brother, my parents and I took the boat taxi across Saddlebag Lake. My parents decided they were going to dunk bait in Saddlebag Lake, the rest of us took off for the basin above the lake in search of the elusive Golden Trout.

The scenery is spectacular....

After huffing up the hills (remember, the altitude here is up around 11,000 feet), we arrive at our destination.

It took some work, but my son's friend finally connects...

This is *not* typical of the Goldens in this area. It was at least 8 inches long and nice and fat. Since the lures were barbless, fish was CPRd.

We caught one other at this lake. Seems all the commotion spooked the fish. Very soon, even though we could see a few swimming around, the bite became non-existant.

We moved on down the trail to another lake in the basin...

We caught a couple more Goldens. These are more typical of the size in these lakes....

At that point, we had to make our way back to the boat taxi. During the high season, the taxi is done on a reservation basis - when you pay for taxi from the marina to the back of the lake, you need to schedule your return trip. It's a popular way to make it to the back of the lake....

Got back to the lake 3 hours after we started out, where mom and dad were waiting with their limits.
