Thanks for the great report J/R

I was wondering how the guys pin the sand dabs on.
Do they go thru the lower jaw and close the mouth?...or?
And what seems to be the preferred hook. Does anyone use a treble hook with the dabs?
And last but not least, who makes those sand dab plastics? They look very interesting.

Thanks , Scott

thanks for the nice report and the info about the dfg updates. I'll be looking them up. I still can't tell the difference between a sanddab, halibut or flounder.

Hi IN2DEEP,

A couple of guys were pinning them as you say. I fsh only plastics so haven't pinned them!

Fish Trap was selling them last year. I'll bet MC and or AA has made some too! The company that I got the hooks for also had Sand Dabs. I noticed many using the long shanked hooks.

Name is Hogy bait company. They have eels and all sorts of BIG stuff.

Hi ghetto dad,

Thank YOU !!! my man. You're the man ..... doing all that work building the bad boyz, working hard in the industry .... and energy to make your excellent reports !!

When I see one of your reports ... I go the the little boys room, put some more ice in the mug, check the TV schedule and settle down to give it a double read !!

Keep those fatties comin' ..... er ..... fatties being big reports of course !!

Hi ThanksKK,

If you catch a 10lb Sand Dab .... someone will tell you !! :) :) Have you caught a Diamond Turbot locally. They are also pretty flat fishys!

Seriously, anyone who would like some pointers might hit the DFG specis descriptions. Hey guys .... does everyone know which Halibut has eyes on their right side, or left side, or sometimes left and sometimes right?

Happy hunting for those that are unsure !!

Ron, I'll ask my sources east of Long Beach if they have any info regarding the Owners.

Are you guys going out tomorrow? 7:00 am departure still right?
I am thinking about hoping aboard if I can get a lift down there.

Don't hold your breath though.

I really wanna fish with the K of C crowd again. They were really super people.

First - what is that side bar about the make-up swapmeet in Santa Ana?

Great report as usual, full of lots of information on the lingcod bite. I'm hoping this year I'll actually catch one. ;) We finally ate the sanddabs we caught on our last rockfish outing and IMO too much trouble to eat. I'm still thinking... I wish I used them for bait. Very interesting to see the lures that look like sanddabs. Well, next time. Serves me right for not following my gut feeling last time I was out rock fishing that I didn't pin one on for bait... Thanks for the report - until next time!

Hi one_leg,

Sorry not to see ya on the boat. That's ok .... I'm the one that should be making an effort to go fishing with you, ghetto dad, and others on a bad boyz moo-moo trip.

Hi Grannyfish,

Thank you. As you probably know, if one is fishing for the Sand Dabs in deeper water ... there doesn't seem to be much chance for a shot at lings until one moves in closer to and in more structure to get the lings.

May be my skipper but ... when fishing for Sand Dab for bait we will often drift till we find a spot which has a bottom of either sand or flat hardbottom. We then anchor, loadup and head for the reefs or rocks.

The first swapmeet event got rained out this year so they did a rain-check or make-up recently. I'll make a report hopefully tomorrow. Next one July 27 don't miss it !!
